  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi all, I've searched the boards and Google but haven't found anything specific to this question. (I tried to post this yesterday, not sure what happened there, so apologies if this is a duplicate)
I recently noticed that my Scarlet is creating a LOT of small R3D files in the RDC directories of some clips. I know that large clips get clipspanned at around 2Gb or 4Gb, but these files are all around 21.8 to 21.9 MBs or else around 83.6 MBs and I'm getting up to 17 of them in a directory. These files act like any other clipspanned file in Premiere Pro, Red Cine and Get Info. It's not a huge deal yet but I'd like to better understand what is happening and if possible reduce the total number of files on my server. Any info or links to resources explaining tis would be great. See attached screen shot.

Thanks for the response Nick,. To my knowledge, I didn't do anything to interrupt the footage. I was shooting a variety of Resolutions 4k, 3k, and 2k, mostly at 23.98. Your question prompted me to go back and look at the resolution of the 21 MB vs the 83 MB and it seems that the 21 MB ones are 2k/23.98 and the 83 are 4k/23.98. I even found some directories with 47-50MB files. Some of those were shot in 3k/23.98 and some were shot at 2k/60.

Also, these clips were shot at 8:1 and ranged from 20 to 100 seconds long. If that helps.
Oh, and I am shooting on the 4.0.3 Beta build. I'll go back and look at previous footage to see if this situation pre-exists the beta build.

Wow, it's funny how a simple question can help you figure out your own answers. It looks like the multi clips are a function of the Pre-Record option in the Beta build. I just did a test where I recorded black for aprox 40 seconds, then turned turned on pre-record (set to 30 secs) and let that run for 40 seconds before quick start-stop on the record button to end the pre-record. The directory with non-pre-record clip had one R3D file and the directory With the pre-record on had 17 clips of about 82.3 MBs each.

I'll try to install the 4.0.6 beta build and test it again to see if the issue persists and if it does I'll let RED know. Not sure if this is a bug or feature but I'd like to get some clarification on it.

Big thanks for making me think this through.
