  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SLR Magic APO HyperPrime mini review

Any thoughts on this ? I’m Thinking about buying a Xeen 135mm to complement my slr apo 25,32,50,85 set.

I normally wouldnt consider the XEENs but there is price drop to under $1500 for the lens, and I thought I could sell it if SLr ever comes out with that focal length. The next cheapest option is $4000 for canon, or $4500 for the Sigma, which are currently out of my price range, (or rather I need to spend the money on a grading monitor)

The tair-11 135 is a 2.8 and can be had in PL mount for about $300. It's a great looking lens.

Thanks for the suggestion- I need and EF mount and something appropriate for follow focus on narrative work.

The Xeens work fairly well. I can't speak for the 135 but i have a 16mm to fill in that end. They have a larger front. The 16 looks nice but obviously bokeh isn't so much of an issue. On the long end i'm using a Zeiss 135mm APO it's not a length i use very often but i think the render is pretty close, the APO is the important factor. The mechanics of a still lens are obviously a potential issue but it's a nice piece of glass.

Anybody has a suggestion as to where to find a good case for the 4 lenses and adapters? What are you using?
And should I plan for a 6 lens case instead. Anybody has heard news regarding the 18mm and 135mm?
Jason Cases... Or I got my 4 lens from slrmagic through Hotrodcameras

I personally chose to get a second 3 lens case from SLR when I got my 32mm (to complement the 25,50and 85 set)

I was offered to purchase a new 4 lens foam insert they have available but felt like having 2 smaller lighter cases fit my needs better than lugging around 1 large case.

While I read there is a wider and longer lens planned, I didn’t realize specifics were mentioned (18mm and 135)

Is this from Andrew or just conjecture?

What’s the best way to contact SLR Magic. Is there a good email to reach out to? I saw the focus shift on a new 32mm.

Can anyone comment on what the distortion is like on the Hyperprimes please?...are they good in that regard? I've looked over the thread but don't see anything on this.

anyone know where i can get the foam insert for the 3 lens case to fit all 4 lenses?

Do i have to contact slr magic direct?

best regards
Marcus

I see they've announced the micro APO range. I've dropped Andrew a line with some questions.

The focal lengths are identical to the larger ones - so i am guessing they are optically the same or similar. I think I read 900g which is a little lighter than the bigger ones.

They are quite a bit cheaper though so maybe that means inside is different.

(EDIT: Just watched that YouTube video so the optical formula is the same - focus throw is different)

I'm not against smaller versions but a question is going forward whether the existing form factor will continue or not.

I think these would be a good match for Komodo and the bigger lenses on larger bodies.

cheers
Paul
