  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SLR Magic APO HyperPrime mini review

Thanks @Darren

i made a 4 Version but the artist uploaded the more compressed 1080p version and on youtube you can't change the file afterwords. But i have the 4k version now here https://vimeo.com/330188177
btw, haze was made with a pocket hazer, this one: https://www.looksolutions.com/news/83/128/TINY-S/d,produkte.html
It's not made for this but it works in mediumsize rooms.
And yes the kippertie is an diffusion olpf. You change it with the standart olpf from red. But i've also added a bit of glow in the grade.

@Ericsson
it's all without an easyrig. I have a two handle setup with the right handle being the titla handle to control the wireless followfocus with my right finger.
If you want i can post some photos of my setup.

best regards
Marcus

I'd be interested to see your rig. I've always wondered about pulling focus with the tilta handle/thumbwheel. In my head I can't see myself doing... cant wrap my head around it. I guess I'm stuck on how it feels with a full wheel in my hand either manual or remote FF. I just don't think I could be as precise. But I'm gonna try it out. My friend has the Nucleus M so I'm gonna see.

The 4k version is so much better. And its vimeo so its better than YT.

here is my Handheld Setup. With the right Tilta handle i can pull focus with my finger. It works better then i though.
And holding the cam with both hands helps a lot for handheld work of course :)

And here is another one shot with the 32mm SLR Magic APO and the Red Gemini on a Freefly Movi Pro with ReadyRig support.

Nice compact set up. What filter Hold is that?

it's a Bright Tangerine Misfit Atom "Mattebox" you can clamp 2 filters.

looks great!

Has anyone heard anything back since NAB about the focus shift issues people have been experiencing? I haven't had a chance to test mine, but might try in the next few days.

What I can say is they are dealing with it on a case by case basis, not a one size fits all type thing. So if you do have issue my advice to contact them.

Took the 50mm Hyperprime out for a swim the other week.. love it. Everything shot in about an hour pre and post sunrise at one of my favourite spots. Excuse the rough edit, was passing time in the airport and wanted to throw something together from this morning.

Wow Steve. That looks so insane. Awesome work. What underwater housing are you using?

Stunning images there, a few of those shots would work as stills. Beautiful interaction between sun, water and light.

Destined for stock?

cheers
Paul

I wish that fish shot was longer

Thanks guys.. this was shot with my Salty surf housing. Nice lightweight aluminium rig for surf stuff.

Wish I caught more of a glimpse of the garfish.. I was either watching them getting eaten by some bigger fish from afar or too concerned about getting washed up on the rocks that are just metres in front of that wave, haha.

two spots i shot with the SLR Magic APOs and Gemini.
I think it was just the 32mm and 50mm.

just for your information. I send in my 25mm lens because it had the imageshifting issue. got back the lens today and it's working perfect. It took them just one week.
So i'm pretty happy with my set. More then before :)

Nice. But I wonder what the issue is... And how it can be avoided.

I'm really glad your experience was nice. Hearing that is frustrating for me though. I sent my lens back almost a month ago and Hot Rod tells me SLR Magic won't have my new one until mid-May

yeah i took the way directly to slr magic. they told me i can send it to the uk and they check it there and if there is a problem they send it to hongkong. That would have taken also much longer.
So they also said i can send it directly to them what will be faster.

Hi there, we have the 25 and 50mm here and really love it. The 32mm is coming in soon for our next project, and the 85mm later on this year.

One of the lens we have is slightly more green than the other. I think it is the 25mm, but I'd have to check again.
It's a bit of a hassle in post, but other than that I really love the look and feel of these lens.

I saw a bit of play/wiggle in the picture during tests when pulling focus, but it's not something I'm really seeing when shooting actual stuff with it.
Might try to have it fixed though, just to make sure it doesn't become problematic on really steady/static shots.

Anybody has a suggestion as to where to find a good case for the 4 lenses and adapters? What are you using?
And should I plan for a 6 lens case instead. Anybody has heard news regarding the 18mm and 135mm?

Here are two videos shot on Scarlet-W with the 25mm and 50mm only.

Cheers!
