Hi!

Total rookie working with Red - trying to get the ropes down.

First things first - my system.

I have a 2 x Mac Pro 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon with 5GB MHz DDR2 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT video card.

Is this sufficient?

It's taking about 5.5 hours to process a 1 minute 4K r3d file, down to an Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) QT.

Any ideas/solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Redcine. From 4k @ 24 fps redspace to ProRess 422 HQ @ 1080.

Are those the only relevant settings?

Ok, I'll try that!
Thanks very much!

Cool- also you should re-register with a full real name or you might be suspended from the boards. It's real-names only now.

Just started fooling around with REDrushes. The difference is almost unbelievable - that 1 minute clip now takes about 3 or 4 minutes to process, and not 6 hours. Exciting!

Why would it make such a big difference?
And are there any major drawbacks to REDrushes?

Thanks.

Just drag the 2K QT proxy into FCP, drop it into the time line, then export at AppleProRes 422 (HQ) change size settings to 1920x1080 HD, if thats the size you want. You don't need to use anything but FCP, and I think it takes (very rough estimate) about 2 hours writing time per 15 minutes of footage.

When you drop a clip into the timeline you are adding the Timecode of that Sequence to the exported clips. I Highly recommend not doing this. You will be unable to Online your .R3d Footage into Color or any other grading software.
