Hi
HP xw8200 3 GB ram 4K record video export 720p QT DNxHD codec.
60 Min. record 2304 Min. export time :(

what problem

MacPro Xeon 2.8 GHz 16 GB RAM under REDRushes factor 8.3 here. If I start more than one thread, it does 6 at the same time. This was half (high) de-bayer.

I'd say: Get a Mac!

If I understand the HP spec sheet you are running one or two single core Xeon CPUs in a computer that's around 4 years old. With those specs it's going to take some time...

As a ready to run workstation, it's hard to beat a Mac Pro. You can even install Windows on it if you want to run Avid on Microsoft.

The biggest advantage is REDRushes (or Clipfinder), which don't exist for Windows and which take the hazzle out of batching several clips. I'd go for a Mac with lots of RAM (about 2 GB per CPU). It is more important than ultimate CPU clock (you always pay a premium for the fastest Mac which is not fully justified by the speed gain). Don't buy the RAM from Apple, but from a well-reputed Mac dealer.
Plus you get the best of both worlds if PC software is needed.

P.S. : I liked the joke about threads ;-)

My export is really slow as well and I can't figure it out as I have an Mac Pro with an eight-core 3.2ghz processor and 16GB memory. I am using RedCine and the export from a 4k out to a ProRes 422 at 2k is about .75 frames a second. This is insane. There must be a better alternative.

Are you transcoding from the full 4K High quality? If so, that will be slow...

Michael

this is really insane,
6697 frames took about 4 hours and 20 min
I am using MAC 3.0 8core, 5 GB ram.
at the same time I am using PC dell 670, 3.8 4core, 4GB ram. which takes almost the same time.
what is the deal?
I am outputing 2k 2:1 quicktime DNxHD, lossless, filter:linear, 24Frames, process:full.
this is taking forever. the dealine is Feb 14, and i doubt that I am going to make it.
any ideas?
help is appreciated.

Thanks

Try processing standard and make siure your viewer isn't pulling the full image.

Michael

the imgae is resized already to 35mm film.
I changed from full process to standard and
4101 frames estimated 1:05 not bad, better than before.
Thanks Michael.
but do you think this will effect the exported resolution?
1-resizing to 2k 2:1
2-process difference

Thanks

Keghnan

I had someone using Redcine and it was very slow on his mac. Then I noticed that he had Redrushes AND Redalert open. Once he closed those windows the renders were MUCH faster.
