  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Slightly Saddened About today's Announcement

Wow. Here we go again with the whiney bitches parade.

They're not santa claus and it does cost alot of money to creat the revolutionary products that we enjoy.

Hey, before you call akube a whiney bitch, just remember akube is the guy who has no problems cutting a sheep's throat in the bath tub. A living struggling animal, he sawed through the fur and skin and muscle and cartilage till he got to the jugular and he held it down as it's life ebbed out of it's veins. I would not call that man whiney, nor bitchy...

I bought a DVX100 in May of 2003. Awesome. A couple of months later, Panasonic released the DVX100A, with many huge improvements. All I did was send Panasonic my old-school DVX100 and they happily traded it for the model A and...

Oh, wait. That didn't actually happen.

A RED ONE owner has several choices.

1. A RED ONE owner can keep the RED ONE and upgrade to the Mysterium-X sensor for a TBD price... just as we promised.

2. A RED ONE owner can purchase any EPIC and trade in their RED ONE for full $17,500 value towards the purchase... just as we promised.

3. A RED ONE owner can choose to keep their RED ONE and receive a one-time credit of 12% on a Scarlet system purchase.

I think this is extremely good, and very generous. Sony, Panasonic or any other would NEWER do this.

I am just searching the posts now, and if this is the case I am going to be furious. I am a red one owner who busted the bank to buy a red one. If you tell me that I cant user my trade in to get the scarlet ff35 I will be furious. Why should some shmuck spend half as much money as me for a far superior product. I don't mean to jump the gun here but I don't want the Epic, I can't afford it. What I want is a full frame Scarlet. A 12% discount does nothing for me as I cannot afford another full camera system. This morning I was super excited but if this 12% discount is the case, red should re-think it cause it is screwing over guys like me. Of course this could be bad information, but it sounds like you read something official.

um. sorry to say but that is the official word. RED isn't screwing anyone, they are just being unreasonably generous to their customers who can afford to trade up to the epic system. Some of us are humbly asking that they extend that generosity down to those of us who want the RED's replacement, the Scarlett FF35.

also I believe ariana pre-emptively called you a whiney bitch.

This was just posted by jim:

The "electronic engines" are different between each of these camera models. That means there are format capability differences. For example, the RED ONE has 4K, 3K, 2K, 1080P (soon) and anamorphic format options. It does ramping, time-lapse, has 4 channel 24-bit audio, etc. Scarlet will NOT have the full flexibility of a RED ONE. EPIC has more capability and flexibility than the other two. It is one of the reasons that the Scarlet body is smaller than an EPIC.

Just so you can figure that into your planning.

Scarlet will have limited format options.

RED ONE has many format options.

EPIC has virtually unlimited format options.

You could sell your current RED-ONE and wait 9 months until the FF35 Scarlet starts to ship...

There is an assumption that Scarlet will replace a RED ONE. If you need a lot of options, like anamorphic or several resolution choices... Scarlet will not fit the bill.
