How about the Mathews DC Slider? That device looks pretty sweet. Anyone have any first hand experience?

Alex

That's the rebranded Floatcam slider. I'm in contact with the original manufacturer from Poland.

Im pretty sure you can use a very simple tripod and a light stand, or C stand on the other end to use for support. [...] I know the MYT does have a motor setup.... YET.. but I could figure out something in the mean while..

You can mount the MYT on everything. Here are some BTS shots of the MYT http://mytworks.com/action.php

There is a motor support coming, but I can't give out any details, I'm sorry. MYT explained to me their whole system and their future upgrades, but asked me not to share those information, until they announce it later this year. From what I get, it's a pretty cool idea and will not break the bank either.

I own the MYT medium 4ft with the medium skater combo. I picked it up last May in Brooklyn and met the owner Etienne, a real nice guy and passionate about his product . I have used the kit with Epic, C300 and Sony F800 and is is super smooth, clients love it. Quick to setup and the whole kit with the flight case weight 28lbs. I know they are developing a nodal head, if they are extending the group buy to this product I'd be interested.

Geez, 63 lbs total for cineped is insane. Maybe myt is way to go, just sucks having to buy two tripods for it because I doubt any one tripod can hold the myt and the epic package from side to side?

Which is why I went with the DC Slider. One tripod, an O'Connor 35L sticks sans head holds it all. Longer than most sliders for sure, but has some nice benefits to it. It's just not a typical slider, more of a combo thingy.

Go through all the pics. at the link...Most people have the 4ft. model and thought I found one with it on single tripod but no look again the case is
holding the right side up.

Kessler and Cineped and DC slider all offer more ways to move rotation and tilt of the camera with the slider..but MYT is working on same such systems..even 4 leg tripod.

MYT QUATRIPOD

The MYT Quatripod has been in development, through numerous iterations, for many years. It will be a completely modular camera support system, adaptable to your existing MYT system, but also functional with other camera tools and systems. With an array of pivoting fixtures and joints, the MYT Quatripod will allow you to set up your rig anywhere at any time.

MYT CURVI-GLIDE

The MYT Curvi-Glide represents an entirely new world of cinematic possibilities. With three rails locking in a central carriage, the Curvi offers innumerable unique ways to move through space with your camera. The design negates the fluid head, and will allow operators to pan, tilt, glide and spiral simultaneously with the camera mounted directly on a panning bearing. There is literally nothing like it available in the world today.

I find it very hard to believe that this setup can carry an Epic rig from side to side without any tilting. Are you positive?

edit: On this link they're having c stand upports on each end, but granted this is quite the superfluous rig: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvcp-AgyNY4

B&H says it can hold up to 22 lbs, but does that mean even when slanted at vertical angles and at the top? Can you literally do any motion full range for jibbing and dollying up to 22 lbs?

Absolutely. The sticks can hold 200lbs. The Slider holds 26lbs, not sure why B&H is showing 22lbs as Floatcam is showing 12kg on their site and I was told by folks at MSE it was 26lbs. Regardless, it easily holds the weight of my Epic without any tilting due to it's unique setup with the counterbalance that moves in opposition to the camera. And it does an amazing job on angle, even straight up and down. The camera will just sit at whatever position you set it when properly balanced.

I'm thinking they used C stands wanting to make it rock solid because they were moving it by hand, which sometimes will jiggle any slider. I have the motion controller and motor on mine and prefer using it because of the ability to program moves and ramping speed smoothly, something a motor can do much better than I can manually.

Is it a replacement for a traditional slider? Probably not. But if you want something that can multitask well then it is great.

If you've never had the chance to play with one, try it out next time you're at B&H, Filmtools or NAB.

Wow, sweet.

Anyone up for a groupbuy on this?

Look back at post 04 on this thread... the Floatcam and the FloatcamHD (heavier payload) were mentioned early on :)

David's talking with the guys who make it (in Poland I think), so let's see if there are any deals to be done.

The Floatcams are great. I've only worked with the HD, and with a full Epic kit using an Oconnor Ultimate it worked perfect going horisontal, vertical, and slanted. But working with that slider it's definialty not a one man job like the others. There will be a lot of weight on the slider, there's the weight of the camera and then the counter weights which will be the same weight as the camera. There are also safety locks for when you take the camera off, and if the slider is vertical and the weights are not locked, that's a lot a weight that can injure someone. It's a little technical for first time users but once you get it down it's great, but a two man job.

I also really love the MYT, it's very simple to use, easily a one man job, extremely solid, and quite compact.

Hi David, I am potentially interested in a MYT Glide (Medium). Thanks for organizing this.

Updated my blog with the offers. Again, if you don't have a password for the blog yet, write me a pm!

By the way... I though some weeks ago about doing a lens rehouse group buy and started a thread about it. Last week, I finally had some spare time and contacted all manufacturers who are doing lens rehousings (plus an amazing lens manufacturer who's producing new lenses). You can find all the information in this thread.
