Anyone know if there is a way to "skip print" from an R3D file without rendering every frame first? This is older footage... Build 15 I think.
Basically I've got a lot of clips ( >100) that we want to generate high-res stills of every 24th frame...
Can't see any commands in Redline that would allow me to accomplish it.

???

Chris

SkippyPrint.command

SkippyPrint.command

here is the download link (with instructions)

http://homepage.mac.com/lindsayellis/skippy.html

os x only (cos of redline)
the .command is just a script that you double click to run so if you need to alter it (ie to make the "Skip" interval other than 24 just drag it onto textedit and alter it!
You can drag the "top level" folder into the terminal window and it will drill down into subfolders.
it does a tiff at full size but i haven't put any gamma/ colorspace stuff in. Never really done tiffs so i don't know if you need to... let me know would you i'm interested!
here is the script for anyone to look at.

#! /bin/sh
echo where are your red files? drag a folder in dude
read chosenfolder
echo where do you want your tiff files? drag a folder in
read chosendest
cd "$chosenfolder"
find "$chosenfolder" -name *.R3D -type f > ~/desktop/foundu
cat ~/desktop/foundu|while read line;do
mydur=`redline -i "$line" --printMeta 1|awk '/Total Frames/'|awk '{print $3}'`
n=0
while [ "$n" -le "$mydur" ]
do
redline -i "$line" -w 1 -s $n -e $n --outDir "$chosendest"
let n=$n+24
done

done
rm ~/desktop/foundu

if anyone is interested in me "commenting" this code so you too can be geeky and productive with bash. I'm willing.
I just don't want anyone to die of boredom...you've all got important films to make....!
And yes I chose skippy as a name deliberately!
G'DAY!

Thanks Jamie.

I'll get one of our mac geeks to check it out... from what I can see, and my very limited unix/irix type knowledge, it kinda makes sense...

cheers! :beer:

heh, heh... nice one Jamie.... just threw it into my Macbook to see what would happen, and away it went!
Brilliant.
Will have to look at some colour adjustments I guess.... but for starters its a neat little script.
Thanks very much mate!
