I think Redcolor is great, but as I have been experimenting more with Resolve lately I have decided to try a different path. What i wanted to do was create a LUT which when applied to female faces would in any lighting situation push the overall look of the skin into something both visually pleasing and different from my usual faster grades with Redcolor
What I did was to gather every closeup of girls faces shot on my Scarlet that I could find, then I started with Redlogfilm and CameraRGB and added two nodes to the first clip until the skin looked good. Then I continued by copying the look to the next clip of a different girl and added at least one node with carefully placed curve points to each clip until I ended up with 8 nodes with a lot of curve editing in each. Then I exported it as a 3D LUT
I want to stress that I really have no idea whether this is a dead end experiment and a waste of time. I wish i could attach a sample but I don't have the permission. I'll attach the LUT so you may try and comment, maybe even post the results! You will need to start off with Redlogfilm and CameraRGB, white balance properly, then add the LUT to a node and adjust WB, tint and FLUT until it looks as good as it can.. Which may turn out to be terrible.. either way it would be interesting for me to get the feedback! BTW the LUT seems to prefer being pushed a bit dark i.e. lower FLUT
