Just finished catching up on all of the Reduser posts. Yes, I try and read all of them.

Lots of great posts. But if I were to make one recommendation to many of the new Red crowd, USE THE SEARCH!!!!!

I must have gone through 40 posts on crop factor and similar.

Admittedly, I don't much care for the Reduser search function myself. I use Google.

Super fast, easy, quick, answers are plentiful! If you search "crop factor", you get 180 results. Plenty to keep us all busy!!!!

Example, in the Google search box, put in [crop factor site:www.reduser.net] (no brackets)

Search before you post!

(I'm guilty too, let's all take the search initiative more seriously as the Red family grows)

Could not agree more!!

I find myself replying to the same thing over and over, yet I do fill compelled to give an answer so I do it,
but it is really annoying some time when new users just post a new Thread without first doing a search to their question.

Congrats on being thread # 66666 ;)

You can bookmark http://tinyurl.com/reduser, which is a customized google search, that only returns results from reduser.net and red.com

+1 for this (or just: site:reduser.net in the google bar followed by whatever you're searching)

Search inside of Reduser doesn't work that well so I always use these methods when I need to find info fast. (Not a dog on reduser - I have yet to run into a site's built in search that works better than google - even when it's powered by google, go figure).

If you would have used site search, you would see there are already threads and posts telling people to use site search.

If you can answer a question in the same amount of time typing as you can writing "use site search" which reply is more productive?

I say if someone wants to start the 1 millionth thread about crop factor, let them. It's terribly difficult to sort through an old thread that has run it's course, and why stop people from communicating with one another?

Communication is good. If you don't want to look at the millionth thread on crop factor, don't.

This is a control issue.

Reduser X has just joined the site. Reduser Z has been around for two weeks, and learned all about crop factor.

Why would you want to stop Reduser X and Reduser Z from engaging in the same conversation you had a year or two or three ago?

Because you learned from such a conversation, it's over, and no one else should do the same? They have to forever more read a done thread about crop factor, and cannot engage in conversation about it?

You do not have to participate in every thread. Once you realize that, you wont' feel like you need to control all the conversations.

Agreed...I think in the last week I've seen 5 threads related to Audio on the Scarlet, and maybe 10 on why people can't use cheaper SSD's or how much data one SSD will hold. I think most of those are stickies anyways. I can't even post or read anywhere right now. I bought a Scarlet but I mostly cruise around the Epic board.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to have a massive "first timers here" section where inside is just all stickies of the most common asked questions and links to other parts of REDUser like "ask david anything" thread and so on...

I'm surprised in the EPIC section that people skip over the Q&A sticky when it does contain a damn lot of useful info that is relevant to Scarlet,

The amazing thing though is also that the posts with what the RED Team say, there needs to be an easier way of just slapping it into a post that repeats the same topic, like "scarlet with cheaper sensor" and those ideas, RED team did a pretty damn good job of explaining the differences in the EPIC and Scarlet in one of the threads that didn't seem to get read and so other threads sprouted...

So a sticky area like that 'crucial' section wouldn't be too bad, then again, maybe people might skip over that too?

off topic but I look forward to seeing some of your first Scarlet footage.

Thanks Eric. I have some work already planned for it when it lands.

This might seem like an odd idea but I've been on some boards where until you hit a certain post count or thread's being read it only allows you to one part of the site. It might be worth having a General knowledge and Info section dedicated strictly to new members until they reach a certain post count or some kind of qualifier that allows them to be able to post in the open forum.

I don't think we should hide new members so much, but force them down a path of threads that makes them read content that will prevent from so much clutter. Kind of like an initiation in it's simplest form.
