A festival requested a ProRes422 file for our films screening in a large theater. I sent them a ProRes 422 1920x1080 file. I just realized I could have probably sent the 4k ProRes 422 file.

Is this how this is done?
Export>Using Quicktime Conversion>Options>Settings>Apple Pro Res 422 (HQ)>Enable Chroma Filtering For 444 Sources>Size>Custom, 4096 X 2304

The current setting on the timeline is 2048x1152.

Does this work? Or am I just stretching out the 2048x1152 file?

Any help would be awesome....

If you have any better ideas on how to give them a file to show on a large screen I am open to them.

Thanks

Exporting from FCP won't get you a 'real' 4K finish. The best you'd be able to get is the 2K file you're working with now.

If you want a 4K file, you'd have to go through Color, or render everything out via Clipfinder/RA/RC and reconform the 4k ProRes files. I'm not actually 100% certain whether FCP can handle 4k *anything*, so take the second option with a grain of salt.

I was very surprised recently when FCP actually accepted a 4K ProRes file imported accidentially. But I didn't have the time for further testing…

hmm... good to know, thanks. Do you think there will be a noticable difference between the the Pro Res 1920x1980 and the 2048x1152 in the theater?

Depends on their projector. Most projectors perform best when fed in their native resolution.
