  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SIModified RED Accessories

Understood John - that's a fair approach.

We'll be taking exactly the route you describe, with the AJA box hired in on the (probably rare) occasions we need it or others require it...

Just a thought, but looks like you're way ahead of me!

I Do very much care about the four screws holding the unit in, rather than it being clamped to the mini-BNC's with just one independent point of attachment as with the ET unit. Much more solid and protective of the camera's built-in connectors.

Dominic,
You may not have had a chance to attach an ET breakout box yourself but if you had you'd have seen that the Din connector assembly floats on springs inside of the unit and does not exert pressure on the connectors. The rigidity of the ET unit comes primarily from the very tight tolerance fit it has inside the connector recess coupled with a support channel that bottoms out in the screw hole below. It does not rely on the screw thread or the din connectors for stability/rigidity, and any force applied except directly away from the body (You pulling on it) will be born by the Red One body it's self.
I'd feel totally comfortable hanging a spare red from that breakout box. It's not going anywhere.

Fair enough, thanks for the info Evin. I still don't like the fact that it's more "catchable" on stuff than the SIM version by the looks of it, plus the SIM unit is cheaper and - as mentioned - allows for some velcro attachment space, so I'm not getting swayed in my decision, but good to know all the same.

Definitely not my intention to bash the ET unit, just my personal thoughts. I'm still happier with the four screw mounting approach, even if it's just out of sheer superstition!
