  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Silly question

I am embarrassed to ask this but I cannot seem to remove the RedMote from the back of my Dragon. I press very hard on the 2 release buttons but it is stuck. I am sure it is a simple fix and I am just lame but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Peter

Sorry but I can't resist...

At least it works while attached to the back of the camera - unlike mine which doesn't work when more than an inch away.

Hopefully someone will be more helpful than I am. Good luck.

Strangely - My REDMote is rock solid with one of my bodies, and totally flakey with the other. Not a huge sample size, but still makes me think.

All the best getting it removed.

Push both buttons together (inwards/squeeze) then lift up and it should lift out... just tried on mine :)

There should be a little bit of play when you hold both the bottom side buttons (before you lift out) - maybe, if there isn't, it's stuck or caught?

Peter, just checked with mine, I cannot really imagine any way it could be stuck? Press both buttons (the lower ones, not the ones on top) to release the sliding lock and move it upwards. (Just like a V-Lock). HTH.

Cheers, Ulf

Call in the Key Grip?

If the redmote is typically seated tightly, you may have to push it down a bit towards the bottom/port area of the camera, then press the buttons...hopefully a little added downward pressure will give the teeth freedom to disengage. Otherwise, it could be that one of your side release buttons isn't engaging properly. If you try one side at a time with a little wiggling, and find that there's no play, that may be the side to focus on. Of course, I dont have a specific trick in mind. Just some patience and finesse. And if all else fails, back to the grip department.

Best of luck!

Perhaps it is temperature related? I would have trouble getting a power supply lemo to disengage when hot. After it cooled, it was still sticky but manageable.

Maybe push the REDmote downward as though your putting it on to take the load off the locking parts and then push the side buttons if you haven't already tried this. Mine sometimes needed me to almost push down to the point of wondering if I was going to break something and then push the buttons and it would always unlock. Kind of a nobody but me could take the thing off.. Call it a security lock.
Goodluck.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. Finally took my Dragon into Keslow here in Atlanta and my friend Andre found that one of the two side buttons was not working. He took the Remote apart and got it off the camera and then fixed the switch while I waited. Wonderful and mystery solved.

Problem solved - certainly the sign of a well used Redmote. :)

Surprisingly mine has worked well both on the camera and from quite a distance. I know others have not.....
