Easily among the most powerful cinematic experiences I've had, SILENCE is as much an epic poem of the struggle that is faith, embracing the audience in a purity of artistic self-expression emblematic of the great masters, just as it quietly revels as a pure work of love for the medium of cinematic storytelling itself. Potent truth intoxicates with a clarity of mind and spirit, as sheer beauty courses through each moment, image, each emotion.
Living here in The People's Republic of China, where international cinema-going means HARRY POTTER, SPIDERMAN, and TRANSFORMERS, to say that I was lucky to have been in the USA at the time of its release this winter wildly understates the event. And although we cannot experience this masterpiece in the cinemas of Mainland China, SILENCE does have a theatrical release on the 23rd of March in Hong Kong, where and when I will revisit SILENCE once more.
