  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

There have been lots of complaints about postings on REDuser.net. Mostly they are about posters who are unappreciative of the hard work being done by the Company RED, I certainly don't think my oun posts fall into that category.

On the other hand, I don't think I add any technical knowledge or user experience to the mix... only opinion... so I must consider myself as noise.

I think I will address the privilege of posting by limiting myself to pertinent posts. That will reduce my number drastically, but will also help rid the forum of unnecessary postings that make it harder for earnest and time-starved individuals to quickly find information.

I will become primarily, a reader.
 
I understand how you feel, on one side there are lots of new posters creating a lot of noise, on the other side I feel that calls for a paid or camera owners only site betrays the open spirit and solidarity of how this community started. I guess it is up to us to police ourselves. I find myself lurking most of the time anyway, but it's still nice to feel that if you crack a little joke here or give a little theoretical musing there you wont get shouted down...
 
If it is in off topic I expect noise. If I go into Red One or workflow it would be great to just of posts aboput problems and solving those problems.
 
Yeah, I'll try to improve my SNR too, posting "wisdom" mainly in offtopic land, cause I don't have a camera yet.

But I DO have a million questions and if I don't find answers through "Search", I must post because knowledge is power.

Gotta be ready for battle, ya know? Prepare, prepare, prepare.

But I think we need silly nonsense threads, from time to time. They're good for da soul.

I like silly nonsense.

Number6, ridding a forum of personality isn't a good thing. We still do need the Larikins, but even kidding around and tongue in cheek posts can have a second informative or meaningful half to them.

When I make a post, before I hit submit, I read it over multiple times. I spell check. I ask myself, is what I am posting useful. If its not, I tend to not post, or delete the post. Even if its a joke, I tend to make jokes which are relevant and demonstrate a point! One has to remember that despite the fact that were all "chatting here", this is a written and read medium. Its permanent, and the voice of type is read over in thousands of peoples minds in a thousand different ways. So one has to use language accordingly.

Also, are you saying that other than noise, you have possibly nothing to contribute to the forum? I don't believe that.

I tend to agree from a community approach...

(I stated in a post that I took doun so as to reduce my noise, that REDuser is like a Dr. Frankenstein's monster that once it became alive, it took on the qualities of brain, heart, love, hate, angry, maudlin, etc., and even occasionally turns on Dr. Jim Frankenstein. Live with its flaws or chain it up or even kill it.)

but from a RED ONE camera knowledge base approach, it is impossible to immediately find what one needs to know about the camera. I suggested that one way to handle this would be for the moderators to put the parts of the monster that misbehaves in a "Time Out" subsection of the forum so anyone who wants to read rants could get their fill but those wanting to avoid useless information wouldn't have to sift through it. (And I suspect that after having a few threads and posts moved to time-out, many would not want to be known for being sent there and might even come to know how others view them. Yikes! I just realized I've provided the means for my oun sentencing.)

Jim was right. This is a forum; not a country. It should be run by the rules of the company whatever they be. And like a local movie theater that set aside Friday nights where no one under 18 could attend a movie, no matter the rating, without the accompaniment of a parent, there has to be sherrifs, constables or whatever.

I kind of liked it free-wheeling, but that doesn't mean I should get what I like. And if I can't get what I think I need, then I'll change my needs.

But anyway, until things sort themselves out, I think I will put a theoretical "use by date" on my posts and if I go back and check them, as you do your oun Ace, and decide that what I've written is not useful or relevant, I will delete it.

OBTW What's a Larikin? I need to know before I call someone that and get punched in the snot (I have a code in my node)

edit: I've just re-read this thing and am already thinking I should take it doun because I made the solution sound too inflexible. I would not make a good judge (What'd he do? Shoplifting your honor. Hang 'im, empty his pockets, then bring me that amount for court costs!)
