  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sigma EF cine lenses issue on V-Raptor

Has anyone else experienced this? Sigma EF cine lenses (manual focus and aperture) on an EF to RF adapter, on the V-Raptor, cause the "Autofocus - BETA" menu to flicker on and off, causing problems with using the on-camera interface and even bigger problems with WiFi control.
  • Canon EF lenses on the V-Raptor are fine.
  • Some of the Sigma EF cine lenses (14mm, 135mm) are fine on the V-Raptor, but not the focal lengths in-between.
  • All of the Sigma EF cine lenses work perfectly fine on the Komodo.
  • Tested two V-Raptor bodies (1 Stormtrooper, 1 production black,) firmware 1.1.2, 1.2.5, and 1.2.6. Genuine Canon EF-RF adapter.
​​​Blocking off the electrical contacts solves the problem, but it would be nice to not have to do that so I could still have metadata.
 
I didn’t have any huge issues, but I was using the Sigma set over the weekend and noticed the AF flickering as well. It never stopped, but I was able to ignore it and keep moving. The Red Touch UI did seem a bit off though while using the Sigmas.
 
This happens to me too. I have found if I shut down the camera, put the lens on, and reboot it everything seems to work. I also haven't experienced on the latest firmware, but definitely did on the beta firmware.

I appreciate the suggestion, unfortunately that doesn't solve it for me. Whether it's a quick reboot, or a full cold boot with pulling the battery, or booting with no lens and then booting with a Sigma EF cine lens, the problem persists.
 
Have you tried making sure the autofocus is off using a different lens first? I just tested mine a couple nights ago and it worked fine after the autofocus was turned off, updated firmware, and did a restart.

A good thought! I tried two ways: mounting a Canon AF lens and setting AF to disabled and then swapping immediately to the Sigma, and I tried mounting a Canon AF lens, setting AF to disabled, shutting down, mounting the Sigma, and starting it up. Either way, I get the flickering "Autofocus - BETA" menu and issues with the interface.

I guess it's something RED will need to fix, and I'm sure they can, as the problem doesn't exist on the Komodo.
 
You’re not alone, I have dealt with this issue as well. I seem to recall turning off all auto focus features helped, but yes I expect Red to address this in a firmware update.
 
I had continuing problems with this yesterday, ultimately I just went to another set of primes (Leica R, cine-mod) and everything was fine. The problem seem to specific to Sigma Cine primes. Would love to know if anyone has a solution.
 
I had the same issue with my Sigma 18-35 cine EF, .. was on a commercial. it actually caused the camera to crash and wouldn't restart on set.
I didn't notice the issue till the crash made me aware of it.
After removing media, battery and lens,.. using AC power the camera came back. (thanks to Jarred for the help)

Yea, it's an issue that needs fixed,.. hopefully soon.

I put a service request into Red over this.
Myself as well as many others use some of the most popular owner/op lenses extensively and really can't have this happening.

I would suggest everyone having an issue start a service request w Red to get this top priority.

The initial response was the "approved lens list" that is frankly quite small and ONLY Canon lenses.
I replied that is simple not acceptable.

I’ve been told this issue will be addressed in the next firmware update.
 
When did you all start seeing issues with EF mounts, immediately or days after? Looking into purchasing new lenses. Some of them are EF

Immediately. As soon as you connect a lens the V-Raptor doesn't like, the "Autofocus - BETA" in the menu will start flashing. At first it seemed like the menu would just be inaccessible, which was fine as the lenses were manual focus, but we later started noticing delays and unresponsiveness in the interface, and Wi-Fi control with the RED Control app was basically unusable. I don't know what other issues there may be, but the flashing "Autofocus - BETA" is the instant giveaway that something is wrong.
 
Has there been any movement on fixing this issue??
id like to be able to use my Sigma lenses.
