  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sigma Cinema Lenses

Zoom prices announced.

18-35 $3999 usd
50-100 $3999 usd

combo set with case : $8499 usd

hmmm.

not bad... hope street prices drop. I want the primes, already have a great 18-35 zoom.

PL or EF?

I was hoping for a price somewhere around $2500-3000. I think (for being rehoused) they're a bit too expensive... Lets hope for a lower streetprice.

that's crazy i think, still version is over $3k less?

Yeah, the 18-35 is $799 and the 50-100 is $1099.
For the two zooms that's a total price difference (between stills vs. cine) of $6100 for basically the same glass... I think I'll pass.

the 18-35 is basically what I would consider a near perfect lens for nearly any job, just a great all around lens.

Obviously street price will decrease over time.

I think the price is the same whether you go PL or EF.

a bit overpriced, 3k or 3,5k should be right price tag (+ 4 than photo cousins)

When you know you have a superior product than the competition, you typically have the same price or higher than the competition. Not lower.

Indeed, and if Sigma doesn't make a decent profit there's nothing left for them to reinvest into the R & D of their next iteration.

Well, but these are not cinema lens designs. They are photographic lens designs bolted into a cinema housing. No doubt, optically these lenses are great, I own both non cine versions, but you are losing foolcontrol support, and the 50-100 is still not parfocal, and likely exhibits the same breathing as its non-cine counterpart. Apples to apples, these would be a bargain, if they were truly designed from the ground up to be cine lenses, but they are not. I find it fair to compare them with their non-cine versions, as they are essentially the same. I think they priced themselves right out of the sweet spot. If they had offered these for $3k, they would fly off the shelves, but at 4K I am not so sure they will. Your observation about product superiority and pricing should not apply here, because Sigma Art lenses perform often better than most of their much higher priced competition, hence why probably most here assumed, myself included, that SIGMA would price them accordingly above XEEN, but closer to the 3K mark. Let's hope that the primes come in at 3K each.

Yeah, but that's not 'typically' the way Sigma has priced their products in the past. If you look at their prices for the still lenses, a big part of their succes is their price vs. performance, which I find outstanding when compared to most other brands.

Does someone saw or know if the focus and iris rings on all the prime lenses align? from this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjMp6xmdBTc it looks like the rings on the primes don't look on the same level (hope I'm explaining myself right).

Also, from what they said, both of the zooms are not parfocal?

I did find the housing and finish to look superior to GL optics and the other plus it's weather sealed which is nice as well.

cine version Tokina 16-28 parfocal and FF, 50-135 parfocal, Sigma 18-35 and 50-100 no parfocal, just aps-c. So, at same price tag I will go to parfocal and FF option.

Gotta agree with this, .. I was thinking Sigma would price similar to how they have priced in the still market. I thought it was going to be around $2,500.

That and I'm not really seeing the value in paying an extra $3200 to get a lens I already own and loose foolcontrol, ..
think I'm going to cancel my pre-orders

wow, this is disappointing, from a company that has been getting the pricing right with revolutionary fast zooms, and they go and price these that high?
i was thinking they would be about 2499 each max, at this price they would keep with their momentum with changing the game. for the listed price i can see most people being like neh, ill just get a focus ring.

For 8k I save something and I buy the zeiss 21-100 ah ;)

Also really curious how smooth focusing is on the new side handle.

i have to say i have found no electronic focusing usable yet, not in typical focus pulling situations, maybe on your own to get a quick general focus, but every lens ive tested it gets staggery, has delays and just not reliable.

Focusing SIGMA EF, and Canon EF lenses via RTmotion handset + POE was Extremely Usable in pro situations for me - however the Side handle focusing method does not have the smoothness or reliability required for pro use (as of this writing) probably just some firmware away from being usable... I think it comes down to Method - i.e. brute force motor commands vs check and move...
