Hello,

I'm working with RTmotion (or Foolcontrol) and would like to know if all the Sigma Art lenses (including the zooms) are supported on the Weapon body to control focus and Iris?

How accurate and smooth is it? Is it comparable to an external motor on a cine prime?

Is there any differences about control when choosing Nikon (that I have) or Canon mount on the Weapon?

Thanks for any advise.

Patrick

The 1835 and the art primes all work really great. Not sure about the 50-100

I have had issues with the 18-35 as have many others. 24-35, 50, and 85 all work for me. They are a bit noisy when focusing but the RT does the job well on focus. Iris works but is a bit steppy. For the majority of my smaller projects they work great. Images are excellent.

Level of functionality really depends on whether you are on release or beta.

I found the latest release version to work the best for this, whereas current beta is questionable.

Nikon sigma primes don't work with fool control sadly.

Is this a general problem with Nikon mount from RED?
I believe RED is more Canon centric and support more Canon lenses than Nikon ones. (?)

Or is it due to the Canon mount wich has more electronics?

Generally, you will find the Nikon versions of the same lens not work electronically on the RED. My friend was hoping the Nikon mount Sigma primes would work but sadly didn't function properly. I'm not sure what the limitations are. Who knows, it may just be man power to properly map them.

i'll try updating to the latest release firmware, but whatever version i'm on isn't working well with my EF sigma 18-35 (Art) it's smooth enough, but it won't reach infinity (unless i focus manually) and it frequently fails to respond when i use the thumbwheel. toggling between manual and automatic focus usually works to "wake it up."

Hello Scott,

After toggling manual/auto does it allways work then, or does it malfunction sometimes even then?
As I understand are you using the RTmotion thumbwheel?
Keep us posted.

You need the latest lens firmware from sigma for 18-35, newer versions of this lens work best

I use the Optitron 2 with Sigma ART primes and some zooms and have had very good results. This combo is especially useful on a Movi when you want a light set up. No rails, no motors, etc is really nice at times. I have to add that the Sigmas seem much smoother than the Canon primes and zooms, less steppy (is that a word) not to mention they are just better lenses.
