  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sigma art 17-40

The famed 18-35 f/1.8 is a RED workhorse. I can't imagine the new version not working. I was thinking about it myself, but since I have invested in the Kippertie Revolva EF/RF, I'll pass for now.

If that lens was parafocal and weighed a bit less it would be the most perfect low cost lenses I ever come across.
Despite that it's still among one of the most perfect low cost lenses I ever come across.

Sigma generally makes some very impressive lenses particularly their wide open aperture performance.

@scorsesefan $350 for this was an excellent deal.

Yeah, it's a great lens. I too wish it was a tad lighter though...

Mine arrived last week. Initial testing at home it seems a great match for the komodo. Seemed to be some very light vignetting at the 17 end. Autofocus actually seemed okay too on latest firmware. Using the lens on its first job tomorrow.

There's some soft vignetting at both ends of the zoom but nothing hard or objectionable, basically par for the course. My rig with a 50wh v-mount and this lens is just over 6lbs, loving that. Autofocus seems to work pretty well. If you override it with manual control it stays overridden until you toggle the switch but this could be firmware or user error. If there's another way to restore auto I haven't discovered it yet. Looking forward to taking it out of the house. I was about to get one from Amazon but the sellers all had horrible RL reviews despite 4+ stars on Amazon. Luckily B&H got it in stock a few days ago.

Good Luck

Does the control ring work on for aperture on the Komodo? I see that on the other mounts it works fine with 3rd party cameras.
This would be a must buy if I can use that to control my aperture.

Aperture is the default function of the control ring, there are 9 other functions that can be assigned.

The lens works well with the Komodo app based focus tools. It’s super easy to set up a rack between several points.

It would be an improvement to see support for the 2 function buttons on the lens. The AF (soft) toggle and 1:1 would be awesome to have on the lens. It would also be nice to see a more granular focus readout. Currently it’s set to a range that’s a little coarse.

The bad news is that the aperture will not currently close smaller than f9.0. The readout in the cam advances but the iris stops moving. Doesn’t matter if the control comes from the lens, cam, or app, it stops at f9.0. I might roll thru a couple firmwares and see if anything changes, Komodo X currently on 2.0.3.

Good Luck

Hi, guys. I'm going to pull the trigger at sigma 17-40 f1.8. Any update about compatibility with komodo-x besides the f9 aperture limitation mentioned by Howie Roll?

Bought the sigma 17-40 FE version and try with Komodo-x Z mount & FEtoZ adapter. Everything works fine including the aperture.
