Has anyone come across a problem where their sidehandle doesn't always boot up with the camera (the display remains blank and it is unresponsive)? I want to get an indications of a somewhat common issue or if it's a sign of impending failure.

A quick reboot solves the problem, but it seems to be happening more frequently lately (although that could be my head playing tricks on me.)

Are you sure it's the sidehandle and not the scarlet? In either case, I paid to have the sidehandle checked out before accepting it, so if it's actually messed up, I'll be pissed. Did they say they were going to look at it or swap it without question (as in, it's a known/common problem with sidehandles)?

Hey Mike,

If you need to meet up and check the side handle on my Scarlet, I'm more then happy to get together. If the symptoms happen on my unit too then it most likely is your side handle...best case.

Also, keep Tues Nov 6 available. Can't remember if you already rsvp but I'm planning to meet with a few folks that own reds in Toronto at my Condo. Hope you can make it. Send you the info shortly.

Wil

I get this as well. From time to time, the side handle will not power on with the unit, but nothing that a quick reboot can't solve. Thank god for those quick boot up times.

Thanks for the offer Wil... That said, it's pretty intermittent (it happens randomly... Last night I booted up 15 times with no issues, but this morning it happen on my first boot attempt.) As for Nov. 6th, I might actually be around but it probably won't be until later-later... I got your PM but didn't notice any times.

Michael, did your rep say that it's a known issue or that it should not be happening? I'd hate to go through all the trouble of sending it in, only for them to say, "we found nothing wrong; give us $100+shipping!" because they only booted it up once or twice or didn't exhibit the problem while in their possession. Screw it, I'm gonna email today... Thing is, I don't think it would show up in a log, since it'd just say it booted without a sidehandle.

It happened to me, intermittent problems with the side handle's display, I first sent the Side Handle alone and it didn't solve the problem, I then sent the Scarlet + the side handle and they repaired them successfully in a few days, no problem since June. They should still be under warranty, and in my case, RED covered everything including the shipping both ways, so the only thing it costs you is a few days without the camera, I suggest to send both the camera and side handle the first time.

It's an Epic (tried several bodies), and yes I'm sure.
