  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sidehandle and touch screen LCD backorder

I ordered a touch LCD with my Scarlet order and got the touch a couple weeks ago. I made sure to call my rep when I got the allocation email. Just waiting on a camera. SO 911. Ordered Nov 3rd. I could have waited on the LCD for the Scarlet to ship, but thought that would be a bad idea.

We received the Touchscreen allocation email last night for Scarlet Kit Order SO-1687 ordered November 4th in the early AM. We received Redmags, Redvolts and a few other cables, ect shortly after an order on November 21st. Got some cool stuff from Wooden Camera too... to qoute a famous 1939 film: "if I only had a brain"

I just emailed Red, and I at least now have my own rep, which is great. i am SO 1099, Canon AL, and also ordered the Side Handle. No estimates are available at this time for either items. Funds have been in my account now for a month. Ordered Nov. 3rd. Went ahead and
ordered the Small HD 5.6 and a Wooden camera back for power w my V mounts from another camera I already have. In the meantime I'm looking to most likely move along my 5D after the Brain finally appears, and have also been shopping for new
glass to add to my Zeiss ZE 35mm and 50mm - the 21mm looks to be my next purchase, but am waiting to see how the ZE's are working on the Scarlet first in terms of crop and controls and look. I also have the Canon 24-105 and I have the Nikon 24-70mm lens w an adapter. Once I get word on the brain I'll add the Scarlet media pack to kick things off and go from there. I mostly shoot docs, so I know I will need to add media as my next big purchase after the 21mm lens. I also see and feel Leica glass in my future (or my dreams!).

I got my allocation for my touch a couple weeks ago, but declined until my brain was ready... but others seem to have generally made the purchase. Is this normal for people to purchase a few thousand worth of accessories prior to receiving brain allocation? Am I the only one that's not used to operating this way? Money has time value, and, there's opportunity cost — even the few months my deposits been out, I could've made a couple percent.

It strikes me as weird — a) to be out the capital and b) to start running time on your warrantee with no way to use the equipment, esp with no delivery date.

I just figured once my brain was ready they'd allocate me for the next batch of touches, but now I'm somewhat concerned if there's a huge supply constraint...

Has anyone who received notice about touchscreen allocation had to provide shipping address & payment method? If so, have you heard back/are you supposed to?

I'm sure everyone has their own reasons but I bought a ton of accessories without the brain so that I can write it off in 2011 fiscal year. So it's not weird at all.

I suppose there is a method somewhere, its just hard to see it sometimes!

serious? wow....

I don't like it that cameras get sent out without touch screens at least... and I think for a Scarlet, because they are entry level.. should have the side handle as well and some red volts.

But hey... not unless you ordered the scarlet first and parts later... then you have a problem.

Hope you get what you need quickly..

I didn't like it either Mark! I had two gigs booked already, but wouldn't have had a working camera to use for the shoot. Very tough decision, but I had to cancel my Scarlet order and use the money for rentals on these shoots instead. :/ The exact opposite of my plan for the new year.

Not really understanding how some people have accessories already, but no camera, while others have the camera, but no accessories. I thought by ordering the package, everything would ship at once - in my dissapointment, it was not the case.

Is the SO# reflective of how many people have ordered? such as SO# being 400, is the 400th person to order?

Or are they just random generated numbers? but it get's more complicated, are the SO# reflective of brains? or could they also only reflect handles and such.

The staggered allocation/delivery process definitely makes it more difficult for the customer to have second thoughts about walking away from the order. Once you receive part of the order, it kinda obligates you to get the rest of the crown jewels. But on paper at least, it seems more reasonable to ship a complete working kit vs the current 'I got myself a camera but got no accessories' or 'Me have the accessories but got no camera.'

Also kinda of weird that the warranty clock is ticking on all these electronic accessories for those customer not having the benefit of the complete kit to test that everything is in goodworking order.

Did you confirm with RED about this? I ordered within the first hour or so on the 3rd but I bought the whole kit package. I just got an LCD allocation and was hoping the warranty wouldn't start until my entire package order is delivered. I'll have to ask about that...

SO are numerical order by order. If you ordered a full kit then you get a # for that. Then if you ordered a set of batteries later then you'd get another SO # thats the next spot in line.

Scarlet-X AL Package SO 959 just got my LCD allocation e-mail :)

Not at all, as Justin said they are in numerical order. You have to take into account that Scarlets are not the only things that people are ordering on RED.com. I feel like it's quite plausible that the number of scarlets ordered may be (still probably is) in the hundreds. Since 2007 RED ONE has only about 8000 or 9000 units around the world. So if your so is 5000 that doesn't mean that you are 5000th in line to get a Scarlet.

As has been stated in a few other threads, we ship based on order date/time stamp per item. So, as soon as each item comes up in queue, we blast the customer for that item. As you have seen, based on what date/time and what mount type of SCARLET-X were ordered, some people get the brain first and certain accessories later. Others may have gotten accessories first, then brain to follow. But, as Jarred has stated, we are working feverishly to make a product being on backorder an exception so we don't have this issue in a few months. I know it is frustrating for you guys...

Thanks Brent - just a clarification, by February as previously stated by Jim or 'in a few months' which could bring us closer to mid-2012?
