I'm really not happy with the zoom/rocker on the side handle. Beside feeling really loose and wobbly if I set it to aperture it only changes aperture about once every 3-4 push attempts. And I've set all +/-1,2,3 and 4 to aperture up/down and it's still super unreliable.

Is that just the nature of the beast or do I have a lemon? As it is I've decided to program a button I don't particularly care about to it.

On my Scarlet if I set the side handle rocker to control iris it seems to work most of the time, but definitely not reliably.

Every button on my Sidehandle feels that way. I'm scared somethings gonna fall off or break when I push it haha. I tend to still use the touchscreen as the handle Feels solid... I can't say the same for the actual buttons. The wheel in particular feels odd.

Not only do I wish that the rocker would work more reliably, but I wish that when you held it down that it would speed through stops.

The rocker's behavior will be much improved in future releases (after 3.0.x) The key presses will be more responsive and there will be a press and hold feature.

cool - thx Trent!

Still waiting on my sidehandle, so I'm trying to learn what I can.. what do you mean by "future releases", Trent? Are you talking about firmware upgrades for the Camera?

A few of us have lemons. The side handle is a big issue which needs big attention

I'm guessing this is the case.

We just got a handle in and its rock solid - no wobbllyness to speak of

The 'rocker' or flywheel as I call it is faulty in 'some' of the side handles. Mine just fell off one day. I managed to push it back in. I'm still using the faulty unit and I've ordered a new one.

Why would you order a new one instead of sending in the lemon?

I just got my side handle yesterday and agree that the buttons all feel cheap - I'm disappointed in the build quality. For nearly $1000 I'd expect a more robust piece.

That being said, the ability to program so many buttons in addition of using the handle for power and as a grip will prove incredibly useful. As long as the handle (and buttons) don't fall apart the handle is going to prove to be indispensable.

I use the camera every day. The lemon is going back. Then i will have two side handles so when one fails...sad, yeah. But what else can u do. Use the RedMote? Good luck.

Yeah, mine is heading back into the shop for that and an off-axis wheel as soon as it gets back from a rental. I'm thinking there must have been something bad with that batch. Because it's definitely not up consumer let alone professional construction standards.

The wheel feels fantastic - the Rocker (and some of the small buttons) is the exact opposite.
The cover for the Redvolts is a tiny bit wobbly when closed on my Sidehandle, making noise when pressing it - anyone else have that too?
With everything else being rocksolid, I expected a bit better built quality for Sidehandle :(

I received my side handle today; didn't have time to give it too much time, but I did mount it and program most of the user keys; so far it's working perfectly and the build quality seems excellent.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

Like my side handle so far, perhaps I am lucky, or just haven't used it enough to find fault. Really nice to quickly adjust camera and as I use it more some, bottons will be used all the time without thinking. So many button, don't think I will use all of them. Still learning the camera. Just love the dynamic range. Haven't fallen completely in love as my older HD cameras are better for some jobs, the fan is a pain and something you have to think about for some shoots, I like the much smaller file size of traditional HD, and can zoom with rocker control, plus can shoot multiple cameras. And yet.... when you have such a powerful new tool, more and more I do want to use it. I was shooting both my Panasonic HPX500 and Scarlet and the detail in the window with the Scarlet was profound, where the Panasonic just blow out. The HPX is a lovely camera but it takes very little to burn the highlights. The Scarlet does not have that problem, but I am going to be burning through the hard drives.
