Side Handle need battery to operate?

I'm sure its been answered somewhere on here before. But with the Scarlet/Epic, if you have the side handle do you need a redvolt in the side handle to power it? Or will the brain power it from the main camera power (v-mount brick battery)?

Tonaci tested and said 36 minutes on STANDBY
