Shutter angle over 180° not possible?

Hi guys,

Today I found myself running into a weird issue I don't remember seeing before: For some reason my R1MX won't let me select a shutter angle wider than 180 degrees. I was trying to set it up for 25 fps with a 1/25 sec shutter but the shutter speed comes out red if I try to go longer than 1/50 sec, and the exposure doesn't change either. Shorter shutter speeds work normally. Previously I seem to recall that the red number was only displayed for impossible shutter speeds slower than the framerate.

Couldn't find anything in the manual except this on p. 43:

NOTE: If the operator requests a shutter speed (angle) that is outside the capability of the camera in that mode, the actual shutter speed (angle) used will be reported in red text.

Why should this be outside the camera's capability? Is this a bug (on Build 32) or am I missing/forgetting something blindingly obvious?

I can't remember the exact setting but isn't there something in the menus about making the shutter speed a relative angle (ie 180deg) all the time or having an adjustable absolute speed.

Yup, there is but the issue is the same: it let's me dial in the value but any number over 180 deg is red... Quite mystifying.

Should be able to do 360 degree shutter. Wish I could help. Haven't had my R1 in years. I'd try to adjust frame rates and compression ratios and see if you can get something going. Can you restore defaults to the camera and go from there? I remember that old nightmare of a menu.. makes me cringe thinking of what you have to go through to do something that is now very simple on the Epic platform.

Also, try updating to the newest build perhaps?

Seem to remember about an EVF setting called Open Gate mode which might affect this.

Tried every which option on one of my R1MX that was at 32 0 3, and even with Open Gate active I was always able to go from 5º to 360º. Have you tried reseting all the options ( Maintenance > Restore > Look / User / System)???

Yesss - the open gate was indeed the issue! Disabled that and now works as expected. Now the only mystery left is why does Andre's R1MX allow the adjustment with it enabled (I'm also on 32.0.3)... But I'm good with this - will leave well enough alone and not reset the system settings because it's a such a drag re-customizing everything.
