Shooting 23.976 REDCode28 on Build 15 (2.2.5). The preference is set to show shutter speed in degrees.

Opening the shutter beyond 180º updates the shutter degree readout on the display, but no change in exposure occurs (image does not get brighter). Closing the shutter (less than 180º) works as expected.

Workaround was to enter Varispeed mode, set to 24fps. Shutter angle worked as expected.

?

My guess is that due to the way OPEN GATE works (double-scanning the sensor) you can't integrate the shutter for longer than 1/2 the framerate. Varispeed disables OPEN GATE, which is why your shutter started working correctly.

So, looks like a display bug. Were you getting a red shutter angle display?

The shutter angle display was yellow, which is normal for "relative" mode which is what our crews tend to work in.

If I recall correctly, the angle wouldn't go beyond 180º in the display, but changing from relative to normal mode (or vice versa) would update to 288º - so it's a display bug of some kind.

Two seperate issues, then. First is that in RELATIVE shutter you weren't getting updates of the angle display (which I'm fairly sure I've seen before as well) until you switch to NORMAL and back.

Second is that OPEN GATE disables shutters greater than 1/2 the framerate - enabling VARISPEED disables OPEN GATE, which enables those longer shutters again. If you wanted sync-sound, you could simply disable OPEN GATE directly.
