  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Shut up and shoot that RED (NSFW)

Haha. I thought it was the Jena's. Nice.

It is.

They bloom and do weird shit, but they are also incredible on skin in particular without getting the "digitally blurred/retouchment from hell" feel...

BTW.
Looked through a bunch of old slr/film stills the other day.
Sharp and resolution is not what make them nice. :)

Can't help my 1st love for the original R1 M, shot back in March 2008 on a Super of sorts...

Sorry for diving into these old images, and I am really excited about the dragon!
But what we had and have isn't all that bad either... :-)

Thanks RED!

Yes old Jenas, what people call the "zebras" (early 60's), are only single coated. Which makes them less contrasty (so gentle on skin), more bloomy and more flare prone. Ie...organic and surprisingly mild. Prone to pastelle colors, porcelain skin, and soft shadows.

What you are using are Medium Format lenses, so wide open at 2.8 will feel more like shooting at 1.4 to f2 on a 35mm stills lens. A little soft, but usable.

But then you are shooting through the middle 25% of the glass (these have such large images circles, we are shooting through the very core of the lens....the best of it)....so I've always thought this gives the images a certain "pop" or "muscle" that is unexpected. An evenness. There is none of the edge-fall off or graduation we'd see on older S35mm lenses...as the edge is so far away it's laughable.

The older zebras are also renowned for their build quality, while later jena's got more inconsistent (the decline/decay of communism had its price).

I've just finished a building a set myself. Looking forward to joining you, and seeing what magic they can weave.

I'll enjoy it until the PC police find out
