Chrosziel introduced three new matteboxes for RED at NAB '09

ac-red-840.jpg

The Chrosziel 840-R2 modular mattebox accepts a series of interchangeable filterstages. The unit comes standard with a filterstage for two independently rotating 5.65x5.65 filters, making it large enough for ultra-wide lenses, yet compact enough for handheld work. The mattebox also accommodates numerous filter sizes, including 4x5.65 and 5x5 filters, mounted vertically or horizontally. Switching to a clamp-on system is quick and easy, thanks to the Chrosziel modification kit. The bracket dismounts simply for replacement with a 130mm clamp adapter. Other advantages include swing-away bracket for 19mm rods, mounting blocks, a pivot mechanism to interface optional side wings, and a foldable french flag.

The Chrosziel 805-RED mattebox is a truly flexible mattebox system, reengineered from the popular Chrosziel 805-02 modular mattebox. The mattebox accommodates a fixed 4x4/4x5.65 horizontal filtersage and a rotating 5x5/4x5.65 filtersage. Standard features also include: a swing-away bracket that enables quick lens changes, mounting blocks and a pivot mechanism to interface optional sidewings, french flag, and a 142.5mm rear plate.

The Chrosziel MB 456 R2 has been designed from the ground up just for the RED One. Compact and super light weight, the MB 456 R2 comes equipped with a Ø 130mm clamp-on mechanism--covering the majority of lenses used with the RED ONE. The unit comes complete with two independently rotating 4x5.65/4x4 filter holders. In addition, the clamp-on mattebox can be adapted to mount onto 15mm support rods--19mm support rods when using 15 to 19mm adapters.

These new matteboxes will begin shipping early May.

I still have a soft spot in my heart for Chrosziel gear. Good looking stuff, especially, the directly ripped-off ET-style base plate. At least its the old style base plate they stole.

Chrosziel has been building bridge plates for a long time.... longer than ET has been in business. I'd take the Chrosziel any day.

Frankly, I'd rather see a true Chros style baseplate for the Red. Probably a better locking mechanism.

Chrosziel opened its doors in the early '70s. They have been developing matteboxes, sunshades, bridgeplates, fluid zoom drives, and more for a very long time.

In addition to the Matteboxes, Chrosziel also introduced a Bridgeplate for the RED Camera.

Who is that little dampend zoom handle made by.

Chrosziel. They are great for hand held because you can do nice fluid moves, and still do snaps. I've had one for years.

Nick

By the way don't do snaps as they are bad for your reputation. lol

LOL, no kidding. An episode of Gangland I shot aired the other night, I hate the hyper-cutty slopfest editing style, and I didn't shoot the show that way. The editor got around that problem by using every snap zoom where I was adjusting framing, or, I kid you not, putting the camera on my shoulder.......

Nice looking bridgeplate top... what's the pricing?

NAB Intro Price: $1400.

The "zoom handle" is a Chrosziel fluid zoom drive (as Nick pointed-out). It allows for precise control over zoom movement. The key advantages of the Chrosziel fluid zoom drive are:

- Adjustable fluid drag
- Allows for slow and precise zoom movement -- as opposed to an electronic motor, thus, giving the operator an almost organic feel
- Mounts onto 19mm bridge plate rods or 15mm mini rods
- Gear Rings are available for all lenses

I realise this a bit off topic, but does anyone know if there is a gear for Chrosziel FF units to reverse the direction of focusing for use on Nikon SLR lenses? ( I know there's an Arri one) Almost every operator who we put on our cameras complains about the focus being backwards.

What about the matching Arri style dovetail baseplate?

Chrosziel makes one but it is only for use with their little DV follow focus. Arri makes one that is for use with a couple of their follow focuses and the MFF-1 is reversible so that Nikons turn the "right way."

And we will soon have a universal reversing gear (aka idler gear) available fr sale.

Yes. Chrosziel offers a reverse gear drive for it's 206-series Follow Focus system.

Does anyone know where I can get one of these Chrosziel fluid zoom drives? I've looked on all the various sites and don't see it for sale anywhere.

Thanks,

Matthew Verkler

Abel Cine Tech can sell it to you.
