Any idea on how one would shoulder mount a Scarlet, or it this one of those things where we're going to have to wait until its released and either Red or some third party will release a shoulder mount for it? I have seen shoulder mounts around for the Red One, but would those fit on a Scarlet? I thought the Red Gunner could be used, but now I'm not so sure.

I think the RED Gunner they showed at NAB will work well with both Epic and Scarlet.
For sure there will also be a bunch of third party shoulder mounts available when this camera will be released ;)

Yeah, I agree that the RED Gunner looks really promising. Not sure how we're going to be able to balance a little Scarlet kit without having a separate battery or something that you can move back and forward to balance.

How easy to you think it would be to operate? My background is using large ENG style Betacams, and always felt they were very easy to hold steady, easy to manual focus and iris, and easy to use the viewfinder. How would using a Scarlet compare to this?

Scarlets will be TINY compared to the Betacams. You will definitely need a mount/rig, like the RED Gunner.

If you have shot a lot of digital stills and understand RAW processing, then it won't be too difficult. Also, the camera system is modular, so I'm sure you'll be able to configure something that suits your particular needs.

I plan to use dual original redbricks as a counter balance for the tiny scarlet body when using a shoulder rig. I am sure that the came will eat through the redvolts in the handle and I don't really want to get a battery module. I am sure that I can get two used redbricks and a charger for less than a new battery module.

I own and like their matte box and follow focus and haven't had any complaints regarding either on three feature rentals.

Would I also be able to use a standard B4 mount ENG/EFP style lens?

B4 mount was originally listed as an option in the Scarlet FAQ. I am sure it still will be at some point. B4 servo zooms can be powered off of the RED 1 now so there should be a means for this too, but it may require an I/O module.

Good to hear as I had a brief chance to handle the mattebox and liked what I saw. And the price is attractive.

I have the Redrock Mattebox, Shoulder Mount and Follow Focus. I would disagree with Terry about the build quality being poor. For the money, you can't beat Redrock.

Sure I'd like an Arri Mattebox, but not at triple the price.

The shoulder mount is a fine piece of work. I've used it on multiple cameras and never had an issue with it. I plan to use it on the scarlet when they release them.

I also use the RedRock Mattebox - nothing to complain about here, either. Pelicase is a must.

For the record, I didn't say I thought the Redrock build quality was bad. I said that's what I had been told by others. (I have had almost no experience with the product myself. That's why I was asking.)

I have had a lot of experience and been very happy with Redrocks Shoulder / rail system and their follow focus.

That said, I am hoping GUNNER comes out in the next month so I can buy that instead of my next redrock setup.

You inferred the build quality was bad.

Are the shoulder rigs a little more solid?

Probably best to simply make a comment based on what you actually know rather than what "someone" told you. That's how internet rumors start:)

I am sorry there was misunderstanding. I thought I was clear in stating that it was information that I had been told and that I was interested in finding out more. That happened and I now have a broader base of information than I had before.

But I never stated that the build quality was bad - only that I had been told that. I was not spreading misinformation, just sharing opinions from others whom I considered (and still do) reasonably informed. As far as I am concerned, neither group ("for" or "against") has a monopoly on the truth. They are all just opinions.
