Hi guys the reason of this message is to ask if it worth to upgrade the Scarlet X to a Scarlet Dragon -or maybe trade in for an Epic- Im really glad i bought this camera but i think is time for an upgrade. I mainly use the camera for rental. Any Suggestions regarding this? Thanks a lot!!

If you mainly use the camera for rental, I assume that the Epic market is going to be pretty saturated, but I feel there will be little people who have the Scarlet Dragon so you might get more rentals with Scarlet Dragon than Epic. However, The Epic Dragon will be a better camera, so if you're getting a lot of rentals now, or you intend to shoot a lot on your own in the future, it might make sense to lay down the $18.5k to go Epic Dragon.

Unfortunately I cant Afford a New Epic Dragon right now. Thats why i asked for the other two choices

Check with your clients if your renting it out yourself (as in not renting it through a third party entity). See what their needs are?

The warranty on the Epic trade up is pretty sweet, especially if you use a credit card that is a business account to double it to 2 years of warranty... I also am upgrading for rental money and my personal preference is Epic based on the warranty alone, and the fact that if I monetize fast I can still get it into a full Dragon at some future point

Look at your market first. For example, I would have more of a rental market for my camera if it was an Epic. However, since that's only a small proportion of my work, it currently isn't worth the upgrade for me at the moment. I've yet to receive requests for the dragon sensor, but as and when that becomes more common I may need to reconsider. You may be in similar circumstances? Cheers, alex

1.3 crop true but maybe he meant no crop from s35 film ...3 perf...?...whatever perf

P.S. if you can't afford epic dragon, maybe you can afford it down the road? If you're not confident in that, maybe look at all the positives of scarlet dragon vs epic mx. I went all out and already preordered my epic dragon. I can't afford to not have it. I bought a buddy a t4i. 6k dragon allows me to shoot higher res than t4i with more color and dr. So I truly have a versatile dmsc coming to me when orders are fulfilled. I've done stills for clients in the past but this will keep them coming back. Also having that available for video will keep other clients coming back and attract all sort of new ones. Not to mention it allows me to be more creative and work with my shots completely different for example cropping shots.

I assume he would have meant no crop from the MX sensor, the Epic isn't "full frame" as we know it, but the epic uses the full frame of its own 5K MX sensor, where the Scarlet uses the 4K crop of that.

Mysterium-X sensor @ 5K is 1.3x crop just for the record :)

Compared to a super 35 gate size?
I think not. Actually slightly wider field of view.
it's a mistake comparing motion picture cameras field of view with that of a still picture camera. The standard has been a 35mm negative film in a vertical alignment for motion picture, for more than a 100 years.

My market is mainly rental for advertisement, music video and movies. I wanted to upgrade to an epic a couple of months ago. Now with the upgrade that Red is offering it } a possiblity to change the camera or even make it better.

Is the Dragon Sensor Upgrade Available or not Yet? If so How Many average days it takes RED to make the upgrade?
