  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Should a Nikon 28-70mm AFS D zoom have hard focus stops?

Just bought a used Nikon 28-70 and noticed straight away that in manual focus, the rings meet resistance at either end of the focus throw, but with a little push the ring continues past the resistance point (infinity and close focus limits). Is this normal for this type of lens? it’s not a deal-breaker but is just a feature of the AF/MF design or something more sinister?

This is correct behavior. I believe it's because infinity changes with focal length, so no hard stop is possible. It's also related to the afs system.

And zooms are no parfocal either. Why people do not buy cheap Red Pro17-50mm T2.9 instead ? I made a same mistake too....
I am keeping 7 Nikon Ais Primes but selling Nikons 17-35mm and 28-70mm.
How is Duclos 11-16mm matching to a new Red Pro17-50mm T2.9 ?

Thanks everyone. Just wanted to confirm it wasn't faulty. the pictures are excellent from it, so it's the trade-off against the mechanics I guess.

Still,
you can not use zoom....
I personally think RED Pro 17-50mm is better choice in a Long Run..

The problem is that you would need to keep switching mounts from Nikon to PL...

Yes that would be a pain Jacek. I hadn't considered that. How's that F3 adaptor coming along? (thread hijack)
Very well - thank you.
Couple of units in the field with raving feedback. I have the first run of 30 in the shop being machined.
Get your orders in quickly...:coolgleamA:
OK- end of hijack:patriot:
