have any of you introduced shot-put pro sloppy copies into your jobs yet? my buddy was telling me how it saves her time cuz she doesn't have to do 3 sloppy copies to 3 drives, just one copy and it does all three drives at once...

if you HAD to do sloppy copies on a job, doesn't it make the most sense to use shot-put pro? have any of you had bad results using it in this fashion? I'm just wondering cuz I'm thinking of making it my new sloppy copy approach (for when check sums are not deemed worthy by productions budgets)

You can adjust the checksum type in Shot Put's preferences. If you really don't have the time for an MD5, CRC32 takes a little less time, and is adequate for anything that isn't an image sequence, usually. If there isn't time for that, change it to File Size. That will at least do a byte check, which will take a negligible amount of time. [SHA265 takes longer than MD5, and SHA512 takes even longer than that.]

The big difference between doing it this way, and doing a Finder drag-and-drop, is that if you walk away for an hour, and come back, the big red X in ShotPut will let you know that something went awry, so you can re-try easier.

You could also try something like Silverstack which uses xxhash which might help depending on your hardware config.

Ultimately, you need to use whatever method is appropriate for the job. Some jobs specifically require MD5 checksums. Others just want some form of checksum and others don't know what a checksum is and therefore put a premium on doing whatever is the fastest method.

Well basically I never have the cards and time to do check sums with certain jobs. So I am drag dropping two to three times per redmag, and then doing playback on first, last and middle takes to QC.

But since I have shot-put pro on my bay now that I rented it to my buddy and she needed it cuz she was on a MD5 gig (and my Double Data didn't work for her Sony F55 raw) I have this as my second check sum app. She says its a life saver on the low budget non check summing jobs I do to use this in my workflow since it cuts down my drag and drop copying time two to three times depending how many locations I am going to. It seems like a no brainer if it is stable, and I am contemplating using it on a gig next week for the first time and just doing some prep on the app to get used to it.

its working, and damn is it easy...too easy... between this and my rocket x my life has never been easier!
