Shot/Take/Scene Metadata in Premiere

For REDcode, I am able to see the scene, shot and take number as metadata in RCXP. I see the same fields in Premiere, but they are empty, even on the clip that has data. Is there any way for Premiere to read this data? Do I need to first process the footage in and export XML from RCXP? Is there something I'm missing?

On a related note, regarding the camera metadata: is there any reason why I can't input multiple characters for the shot #? I use shot lists that go beyond a single character but can't figure out why the field limits me to one character only on the camera when I'm in the field on a shoot.
