  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Shot on Robcode...

Ah yeah the Dutch guy...awesome! Great he gets the credits he deserves right here in the spotlights. It is so great to work everyday with something he made possible.

Our country will probably be proud of him too with all these movies on the bigscreen. Even though allmost all cinema's here signed a deal for 2K Barco's. Grrr that sucks now we just got started with Finishing in 4K.

Is Rob also involved with the whole process on the 'projecting' end at RED?
I'm really hoping for a time in which we will buy cards with 4K movies on it...right at the general moviestores.

To Rob, i don't know you and i never met you but i appreciate what you do for us end users. Thanks very much

Great thread for an awesome dude whom (like Deanan and Graeme) also provides unselfish, any hour support to idiots like me - MUCH appreciated.

Nice going Rob,

Cheers,

Haha, thanks Jim, Graeme, Deanan & everyone else! We have such an incredible group of people working at RED. All of them are rockstars! I wish everybody could see the amazing things going on here.

Frederic: this is all your fault ;)

Rick: bedankt! Hopelijk is daar alles ook goed!

J.K.: like a lot of people here I'm involved on various levels in a lot of different projects

Okay... back to coding.

you never get to put faces on the people that develop camera and codec codes... even their names are usually left unknown.
teams of nameless tech guys in lab coats that gave us amazing film stocks, high speed film cameras, digital video, D1, HD...

last NAB i got to shake Graeme's hand and tell him how much i deeply apreciate his work, (code writing, at these level is not less than art for me, with a pinch of genius magic) and how different and satisfying it felt to be able to know who to credit, and even shake his hand.

guess i need to find Rob Lohman next NAB :)

the sense of amazement i felt when watching my first REDRAY presentation is close to no other i had over years of seeing footage projected... thinking whoever coded that must be a genius (14Mbs on a dual layer DVD if i remember correct) i often feel this when working with R3D files

Phil Holland proposed a "credits" section for behind the scenes team... +1 to that

much appreciation

RE: RED LAB CENTRAL

Hi Jim,

I am a new Scarlet X customer and like everyone else I am pretty excited about receiving the camera, whenever that will be. Yesterday, thanks to Will Wernick (a senior member here) who made some R3d files available in the forum, I was able to have a go at grading Scarlet footage using Redcine Pro and the experience blew me away! I was thinking to go via HD SDI 422 for some jobs with a Ninja or some other third party recorder, but now I am thinking that the Red Rocket is the only way forward to really enjoy all the camera has to offer. So I had an idea (maybe you already thought about this), but I called it RED LAB CENTRAL. A dedicated 'central' for the community to grade RED footage, exchange grading-specific ideas and also a great marketing tool that would bring a much more interactive experience to production and post, whilst making the argument to people like me who are new(er) to RED, of the quantum advantage to shoot 4K and in turn wanting to acquire more RED products.

Through my experience with Redcine, I know for a fact I would be keen in sharing my work in a less ad-hoc way, hence my suggestion for a dedicated platform. For example, this Spring I'll be the DP on the second feature to be shot (ever) by a Rwandan director and production company. I was involved in the first and it was shot with the RED 1. It would never have happened without it. The film 'Grey Matter' scooped two awards in Tribeca 2011. So until then, I'll be saving up to get that RR card so I can shoot this with the Scarlet X.

Oh yes, thanks Rob for making such an amazing code!

All the best,
Antonio

StroopWaffels all around.

(yes, that one goes back a while) ;-)

o boy.. don't get me started on those. I gain 10 pounds every time Rob comes back with a backpack full of them.

Hi Rob,

Any news on how we can get hold of the app for the ipad you and Ted presented at NAB 2011?

Thanks
Antonio
