  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Maira,

I don't have an iPhone 12 so I don't really know what Apple's version of Dolby Vision actually is. However, here's a tutorial from Ripple Training that might help if you use Final Cut Pro.

Yeah, still feels like an oversharpened phone video. It will be long before my photography eyes get excited over the cameras in either brand's phones. Too much post-processing and less raw good quality.

I'm, however, much more interested in the Lidar tech. If scanning apps becomes fast and reliable to use, that could mean that if you're doing heavy effects work you could scan the entire set or location in order to "copy" objects in the scene that will match the lighting you shot the scene in. Imagine a VFX where a wall gets destroyed, you could just Lidar-scan the environment and composite the wall, floor, and surroundings in order to do that VFX. Not to mention putting it on the camera and get depth data.

Christoffer,

Maybe someone like blender will incorporate something as you describe in a future update. It would probably require a separate external component that you would need to use with your camera at the point of capturing the image for later VFX work, similar to DJI's Raven Eye. I think Blackmagic Design could adapt something like that in Fusion with a further update to its Neural Engine. Also with Blackmagic Design's hardware integration with its software, they would be a sure bet if Apple don't beat them to it since they already have the Lidar technology.

According to Apple's new patent, it is expected that the new iPhone will be able to change the annoying features of iPhones by changing the screen orientation using Face ID.

A video I shot walking to work using my iPhone 12 Pro Max. It's filmed in 4K 60fps and HDR but the movie is exported in SDR.
