UPDATE: I talked to Ryan over at WC where I bought the unit, and he said they could cut/solder the cable, but obviously voids the warranty for the unit. Any suggestions based on this? Would this cause any problems down the line?

I read on an old thread that one can shorten the cable on one of these. I didn't know what other accessories I'd be adding to the back of my camera when I first bought this, but it looks like it'll just be the battery plate for a while, and having a super long cable hanging out is getting annoying, even if i tie it down.

What types of places can do this without damaging the unit?

There's sometimes enough space inside a battery plate where you could hide a bit of the cable - that way no need to cut the cable at all, and easy to revert to a longer cable in future. Just a possibility.

Thanks Eric. I did notice that there was some additional space when I was first assembling it, but I think the way it is right now, I want to get it from 20" down to 6", not sure if that'll work. I'll open it up again and see what space is in there.
