Greetings all,
just posted a short that I shot and edited on my iPhone 4.

It's based on an old first year film school exercise.
This project really showed me the strengths and limitations of the phone quickly.
I am still blown away that I can do this all on a hand-held device. We've come a long way from my old Commodore Vic20!

I think the phone will be great for videos of my kids, but I'll leave the real story-telling to my Red.

enjoy:

Thanks for looking!

I don't get it!!! What's up lately with all this commercials, music videos, and shorts shot on iPhone??? Is Apple paying you? Is this part of their marketing campaign? I bet that will soon see a full-length movie shot on the iPhone.

The dolly shot with the 8 ball is great. And considering you didn't do any post CC it looks good!

these are not iphone exploitation flicks ..its just something people are doing for fun

but I wont be watching any full length movie made on the iphone :hand:

I just did it for fun!

My contract was up, so the timing was right to upgrade the phone. I have a 4 year old, and a 4 month old, so the HD was appealing to me. Getting to edit on the phone, is pretty nice when you can do it whenever, and where-ever. I hope the next version of the iMovie app is a little more solid, though.

Really, it's just a novelty. You are seeing a lot of them now, because everyone just got 'em. I've had mine for two weeks, so I just wanted to see what it could handle. I'd already seen the train film, and came up with something to shoot. I spent about 2.5 hours on production, and less than 20 hours on the edit. I shot it at work, with the owner of Design Reactor as the star.
(check out http://designreactor.com, if you'd like a hint at my 'day job')

Trust me, if Apple was paying, that would look ALOT better.

I don't have to get paid every time I take a camera out.

Thanks, Robert, and happy shooting all!

Haha there are some surprisingly snarky comments for what I thought was a fun little exercise. I mean, it's just a one-minute short, it doesn't waste your time, it's just showing you basically what can be done, with an honest assessment from Jason about how he wouldn't use it for any professional work but hey it was enjoyable and it's good for what it is.

I have an iPhone 4, just got it a few days ago, and it's fantastic how good the video is for just messing around. Obviously I don't intend to do ANYTHING professional with it, but I could imagine using it for location scouting quite easily. The fact is sometimes I will absolutely sacrifice quality for convenience, and those times are when nobody else but me sees the results. I'd rather use my iPhone 4 for quick location photos and videos than bring along my D90 and an HVX200 or Flip video camera or something along those lines. It's very convenient to whip out a phone that you always have with you and get some useful stuff out of it. Then I can send a video to a producer or someone else and say what about this location? Bam, done.

I think it would make some good quirky shots you can't otherwise get with anything else. even with smaller dslrs. That previous short i really liked how they hooked it onto a toy train, in this one, i liked how you could sneak the phone into really impossible corners for anything else. Acquisition wise, I can see it a lot more for news, reality based (crap), and as far as a PHONE!! can do, it's pretty neat. The auto exposure really bothers me though, the constant exposure popping gives me a headache, only thing i really can't stand about watching about phone vids. But at least we know if we ABSOLUTELY need to shoot something, phones are on their way of being pretty acceptable...
