  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

One of the things I thought might be a fun exercise for the forum is for one of our writers to pen a simple 3-5 page script and have anybody who wants to to shoot their take on the script.

Maybe I should read before jumping to conclusions, but Gropecunt Lane is a lesbian comedy, right? Sorry, couldn't help it. Jeez... Moderator behaving badly. Ooops. Now I'm going to shut up before I have to ban myself.

I may be willing to share some scripts. I have gobs of short ones, half-finished ones, partially developed ideas, etc... No way I could ever finish them all, even if I had a full studio at my disposal and shot every day from tomorrow until I die. Sad thing is, I have two I'm really trying to get off the ground and can't seem to get that far. :(
 
I have a ten-pager which I wrote quickly to use an existing Vietnam War firebase set however access to the set was denied as it was then though that another short film would copromise the intended feature that was shot there. As it turned out, the feature was not completed. The set is now gone. My script has not gone anywhere.

The genre, sci-fi-fantasy-war priority in that order. Characters, grandfather, grandmother, grandson, officer at firebase, background extras at firebase, teacher, teacher as child. Locations, suburban dwelling house, ( kitchen, grandson's bedroom ), high school classroom, Vietnam War era firebase.

Angry Monkeys - 6 pages. A police Detective comes to terms with shooting a child in a care accident.


Whore - 9 pages. We do what we need to do.


Wisdom of Leaves - 6 pages. A young girl teaches her Grandfather about wisdom.


When Mary Comes Marching Home - 6 pages (this one is pretty harsh) A woman soldier suffers violent, post-traumatic stress after being freed from captivity.


Love’s Only Witness - 6 pages. The last man on earth records his attempts to save a pregnant woman. (optioned)


Honeysuckle - 14 pages. Erotic vampires. There is a perfect job for everyone. You just need to live long enough to find it.

I'd love yo see this community do a short fest of sorts. Lot of talent here. I hear it mentioned from time to time, but it never seems to get legs.

Maybe a 'shoot it in a week' thing. 3 to 5 pages of script. One or two locations, 3 characters, any genre.

4pp. (single shot), Experimental
The first-person POV of a deaf man whose home is invaded by local gangbangers – who have the wrong address.

Set at a coffee shop, a despondent Barrista confronts a series of insane customers.

AN INTERROGATION
12pp., Police Drama
A newbie detective has to outsmart a suspect who may be holding a disappeared young girl.

I'd love to do something like that. Not that I have the resources to get involved yet.

Mostly, I'd like to read any good short scripts being passed around these boards. I'm a bad writer and would like to learn from good ones.

Also, do you have any advice on writing a strong short? Structure I'm sure is crucial, but beyond that, even?
 
How about we aim for mid or late January - folks will have their new Christmas toys they want to try out! Maybe have a pool of 3 or 4 Red-User scripts to pick from, then set aside a 2 week shoot period, then put 'em up.

Simple stories, easy to shoot, nice short films folks can use as calling cards!

Thicker Than Water 10 page action/drama - A brother and sister head out for a night on the town. It won’t be long before they meet up with some big ugly.

Ignoble Pursuit 10 page drama - Two brothers deal with hard times and some bad history – a bad history destined to repeat itself.

Butterflies Never Die 5 page historical drama - A war prisoner wants to change her memories before she is executed.
