Well.. It depends if you want the matte box to show off or you really need it. There are two main application to the mb: to shade the lens from stray light to prevent unwanted flares and to hold filters.
Now, if you happen to use screw on filters and keep your lens shaded either by a flag or sometimes it is just not needed (because the lens is in the shade) you can have the same results without the mb.
The only exception is the use of grads where you really can't do without matte box. But with Epic dynamic range this is also something less crucial now if you are willing to leave it to post.
It depends, you'll not be able to adjust the graduation height which can be a problem in certain (or most) applications.
It's going to be DV camera mania! Camera, lens, sticks.....let's shoot a movie!
And... Why not? A mattebox usually is not a very important part of movies. I know several that were shot with matteboxes and they just suck!
What I don't understand is how these people can get a decent exposure without a mattebox and ND filters? At 320, it's hard enough to keep the exposure in the T2.8-T8 range, but at 800 ISO and dealing with anything to do with the Sun, it's impossible. Outdoor shooting is where I wish going below 320 was more than meta data.
Screw-ons? Gibby has already spoken, so...

Now something occured me, isn't this craze for mattebox in a cine environment reminescent from the old days where lens flared more easily? It might just be.
