All this resolution on the DSCM2 has renewed my interest in shooting stills with my camera. When the DSMC line first came out I had big plans in my mind to shoot stills, but gave up on it for the most part when I couldn't use strobes. The side handle had the PC sync input to trigger them, but I'm not sure if it was ever enabled?
I was looking at the DSMC2 side handle and it is looking like there is no PC sync plug. Do any of the photographers out there who regularly use a DSMC2 to shoot stills have a trick for using strobes? I would love to be able to do this.

I've gotten used to using continuous lighting for photographing stills, so I haven't been worrying about syncing strobes. It is a little awkward for vertical format shots, but it works. I used an Arca-Swiss Slidefix L-bracket for the verticals, partly because I don't have side handle or anything like that -- nor the budget for one right now.

Continuous works. It sure would be nice to have the option to use strobes.

Yes, this is one of the big drawbacks of DSMC2 - it actually does not support strobe any more. The PC port of the old SH was enabled at some time and we used it for a few projects, one of which can be found here: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?123926
I´m not sure if strobe lighting is the way to good stills from a motion camera, I enjoy the smooth workflow with continuous light not disturbed by shutter clicks or flash. I did not try 8K yet but I suppose it´s going to add that little bit that I feel missing for some kind of work. I don´t see a motion camera "replace" a dedicated stills camera it´s more an alternate way / another tool in the box that has its place and can lead to great results that might be hard to get when shooting conventional. Just my ct... Cheers!
