hi, i shot a test sequence using build 15 that i am trying to open up on my pc, Redcine opens up, i load the folder, but image is black. I tried openning the proxie QT files, but image is white in QT, seems to be a codec issue. Unfortunatly, all the codecs on the red site seem to be for mac. My laptop has a Nvidia Geforce Fx Go5700. Pc at the office has a quadro fx card.

What do i do to get the workflow going on a pc? Where do i find the codec...
Need to know fast before we shoot!!

I don't think QT proxies can be used with PC.
Make sure you are downloading REDCINE for the PC.
If you do a lot of RED shooting, I would hire
a DIT with a MacBook Pro.
How are you going to edit?
I have the latest iMac 24" and it is working perfectly
with all the new RED software.

we were going to open up the proxies in QT pro, export to animation codec, use those files in Adobe premiere for editing, open up the edited timeline in After Fx, replace proxies with original files, and do movie magic from there on..... :)

Apparently not as easy as when shooting HDcam.....

Still need a solution for openning those filesd on a PC though....

AFAIK, Redcine (free) and Scratch ($$$) are the only options for working with R3D files on a PC right now. If you're moving to a different codec for your editing, you only need a mac for the initial render to that codec. No doubt it will improve in the future but the PC workflow right now is definitely slower than most other video workflows.

Both Redcine and Scratch are GPU accellerated aps and very picky about the specific card you have, the latest NVIDIA card is best. Basically if your video card costs less than $500 it is less likely to work.

Not going to work.
Cannot open QT proxies at all on a PC. (I think??)
I finally bought an Intel Mac. I had a PPC laptop
but nothing RED works on that.
My PC even though it was fast was painfully slow
with REDCINE and r3d files.
Bottom line - Order an Intel Mac today if you are going
to do anything with RED footage. The PC stuff may come along
later but why screw yourself?
