Ok I need some advice

I posed this question over at the DVXUSER FORUM but I would love to hear what you red heads have to say about my dilemma.

I am about to shoot and indie at the end of the month. I currently own the hvx200 and use alongside it the cinemek g35. A system that has provided me great results. However I can't seem to get the red one camera out of my mind. There is no way I can afford to purchase one. However upon doing a little research i ve seen that the red one is not excessively expensive to rent. I ve seen it as low as 350. So i figure if i were to shoot a practice shoot with my hvx as a form of visual storyboard plotting my shots and editing before hand. I think it would be feasible to think i can get away with renting the red one for 10 days to shoot it.

As I have never even touched a red one camera. I am curious to hear what you guys (who have actually shot with the camera) think. Or should i stick with my current set up of hvx200 and cinemek g35. I mean macgregor himself did magic with just a dvx camera and g35. (similo) I realize there is no guarantees with indie films. But you dont get many opportunities to make a film. And i am trying to get the most out of it.

thanks for the time

Omar, where are you located?

There are a ton of RED ONE operators in LA willing to shoot for dirt cheap. There's nothing wrong with your HVX/G35, but if you have a little bit of a budget, there's a lot of nice things about shooting with a RED ONE. Tough call, just depends on your budget.

Brandon can you be so kind as to point out those dp's who are willing to work dirt cheap? I would appreciate it. thanks

Ask for a Red ... settle for HVX200 ...

advertise/plan for a RED ... if you can't find one that fits your budget/shoot dates then shoot with HVX200 ...

I'm not too aware of the cinemek g35 lens adaptor but if it's like most lens adaptors you're going to be losing a lot of light...that's annoying in itself. Long story short...go Red, you won't be disappointed (so many advantages, I can hardly be bothered to list them all.....)
