  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Shooting a television pilot with the Epic

Day three of five - hump day. Been amazing so far. No glitches to report today just great footage. As the show's DIT, Eric Ulbrich already pointed out it's been a great show and the director and producers are all very happy with the footage. Our VFX Supervisors from Mechnology are looking forward to working with the footage (as is everyone else). The improvements Red has made are so significant in menu layout, button locations, all the day-to-day camera operations that the show is actually a little more fun to be on and less stressful. The image quality and the piece of mind from lower compression rates (give that this is a VFX heavy show) has lent itself to a situations where we're worrying less about the equipment and more focused on what we're creating. Again, I have to applaud the drop in size and weight. A memorable moment from today is when we had to put the camera on a high-hat atop a ladder and it only took one person to carry it up. Two days left to go...

Here are some pictures from the week so far:

Alright Eric P., well both Eric's actually, you're making me jealous! Can't wait to shoot something with the Epic with you.

Second the question on the dropped frames, haven't heard of anyone else having that problem. Did you get an error message, what were the circumstances?

I have no doubt you and I will be shooting with an Epic soon enough and I'm looking forward to it.

As to the dropped frames, if an error message came up, it wouldn't surprise me if I totally missed it. We're moving very fast on this show clearing 40 to 50 setup a day. The shot was a simple lock-off while on the dolly. It might have happened with one of the "power spike" warnings we got or maybe the heat in the studio (at that point we were shooting a bunch of dialogue and so the AC was turned off). Who knows. I'm not worried about it - it hasn't happened since and so I'm chalking it off like a hair in the gate.
