Yeah that was me, but that was shot on the original RED ONE non-MX back in the day (circa 2008 maybe) ;-) The Dragon demo was done maybe three / four years ago. Anyway, the Nikon 8mm is a nice lens, but is a FX lens, not DX which is closer to the RED sensor sizes so the 8mm winds up being roughly 16 mm or so on a RED camera which really won't get you the circular look you need for the dome.
How is IMERSA going? good stuff this year?
I just snuck into the camera demo last night, which was the first presentation of the conference, because the dome manager is a friend. We ran a few early RED ONE experiments and weren't thrilled with the outcomes at the time, with the available out of the box technology. But once my 8K cam was delivered last month, I thought it would be worth re-visiting, so jumped on the chance to see this year's demos. Things have sure changed! But I'm not involved in the whole conference.
Being able to shoot for dome straight out of the camera with an off the shelf lens is crazy. I may have to be the guinea pig of the $150 Mieke lens. It may be too cheap to pass up, and if it doesn't work, there's always the trusty Sunex....
The big drawback to the Meike is that it ships, vaguely, sometime in March or April. uhhhh.....
