Coming soon is meaningless when it comes to Red. The store site has said coming soon since December. Working units exist, units have been built for shipping, but it was only incredible initially and Red said that's not good enough. They wanted to make the software better. Red officers hoped to have it shipping by the end of March but they had hired outsiders to make it better (either because outsiders could do better than Red evidently could do with its own people or their own programing people had more important things to do. This task which was not completed in time to ship by the end of March. As usual, Red is just too busy with more important things to bother updating those who have preordered so we don't know what's happening now. I would wait until we get some news from the NAB show next week before trying to get your Red bomb squad person on the phone for an update.

The only thing RED is guilty of is being too transparent with regards to their product announcements. If the REDRAY were being developed by another company its existence would still be a secret....

Ted said it going to beta which could last for about one month and then start shipping to fill preorders. Of course it could take a lot longer than 0ne month. Kinda hard to predict a beta length until problems start to arise. My guess? Beta will start around the 25th and the unit will ship July 1st, maybe later

Well its mow the end of May and no news to update the last. Not a peep about the delivery of the software prepared by a company Red hired. The software was due the end of April. Not a peep about the beta testing. Are multiple units out in the field be tested by ? now. What is being tested in beta? The ability to playback Red camera shot material after it has been compressed or whatever by a Red program and loaded onto the player somehow? By reading a hard drive or by receiving the content over the internet fed there by some beta version of Odemax? And if there is beta testing going on, is it being tested by users that have 4K projectors with large screens so that PQ can be accurately judged or do most of the beta testers have only small 4K panels? I am beginning to worry about my it will ship by July 1st prediction. Many laughed when I first made it. remember those Red pictures of units rolling off the production line in December? Who knew the err tire company couldn't deliver the specified tires and now all these cars are lying in the warehouse waiting for tires so some can be tested on the beta test track. Of course maybe the specific required tires just can't be made. Shipping of the $599 Sony server ($399 to Sony 4K panel owners) should start in June or July. That will happen. $399 you say? How much will a Redray cost me if I order one today? $1750! Of course the Sony internet content service is in the Red coming soon status with Sony stating in the fall. No details available at all. So Sony will likely beat Red at getting the first 4K player to market but with only preloaded content. Of course Red could like Sony preload some 4K content on its Redray hard drive and start shipping in advance of Sony. Of course to do that the plug in would need to be ready and well as the internal uncoder or whatever its called. Its so easy to figure what's going on and to make plans. Should I shoot my breakthrough movie now with my Red camera I just purchased to shoot the screenplay I just wrote? Its only being shot in 4K but when I make millions with my film, thanks Odemax, I am going to upgrade the sensor to 5K so I won't feel so inadequate. I have a really really fast lens so my DOF is in nano meters but my wife is getting a degree in focus pulling so I am OK there. I am going to master it on my 50 inch $1299 Chinese display. I will really be able to see how well my focus puller pulled the focus using that. But as soon as Red comes out with its under $10L laser lit 4K projector, I will be mastering on that. I promise. Just spoofing. Killing time. It isn't like that at all for a start up Indy, is it? And to think it was all made possible by Red's initial camera and its pricing, the next wave of new Indy's will be thanking Black Magic for being able to buy a camera with money saved from their allowances. Now relax. I just watch content, I don't make movies or want to. I can get my message out just by posting here so that 37 viewers or so can read it. Of course, if I made an Indy I could put it on u tube and get lots to watch it but I wouldn't make any money. Best just to post here. sort of being a virtual Indy without the pain and the costs. :)

I was at RED Irvine yesterday (6/13) and I asked about Red Ray shipping and was told it started that day. I think my source was an informed one.

RED RAY shipping?

RED RAY shipping?

Could someone from RED officially confirm that - and the price ... could be terrific news.

Thanks,
Neil
