SHARPENING AND COLOR QUESTION!

Hi Guys) have a question about sharpening.... a little bit confused here are two russian videos with strange picture style in my opinion:

so if u can see the picture is over sharpen or it looks to "plastic" don't know how to explain... especially u can see it on that seconds i wrote.... so i want to understand this is just sharpening or some special color correction effect or just bad compression.... really don't know. so the firs time i thought it was just compression or bad quality but than i understood that those guys who are making music videos "Blackstar inc." they are making all their clips in such style.... what anybody can say?))))

actually me, i dont think it's just sharpening.... the picture looks to "plastic" as i mentioned before.....

It's because they've tried to correct a scene that was poorly shot, they've tried to get some brightness into the subject against a blown out background and have actually reduced the mid tone contrasts in the process. I don't believe it's a "look" they're going for, just a fix to what works best with a difficult couple of scenes. Try and imagine how dark the subjects would have looked to keep that sky partially exposed.

i was playing with unsharp mask effect but it is not the same.....

ALSO FOR EXAMPLE - 1:36 - look at his face, especially nose. i mean the edges and all details of the face, really can't explain what it is but it is for sure different from usual videos and really this guys are making such thing with all their videos so they are making this effect not as a mistake how i understand....

From 1:44 - the same, look at his jacket, face and the whole street.... hope u understand what i mean)))

i'm really interested and confused cause haven't seen such things before and want to try it) in my opinion it looks strange but different and not bad...just strange and different)

Yeah judging by the edges i think its just too much sharpening or unsharp mask nothing special and its obvious a creative decision rather then just mistakes. You can try using NeatVideo noise reduction you can get this effect easily

i tried with my footage and neat video and nothing happened... it is just reducing noise as i know or...?

No with neat you can tune it in advanced settings and skip the reducing and use it to sharpen i think to get an effect like this play with the large and mid details rather then fine once
