  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Shake - anyone tried the "RAW" qt in Shake?

On my to-do list this week...

I could be wrong but I think the Shake update is just to fix the handling of 10-bit media on Intel Macs.....at last!

Will one have access to the metadata from within Shake?
Does it work @ all?

It should work fine, but what metadata did you want access to? Shake treats QT files like any other image source, and does not support free-form metadata for different formats.

It would be really nice if you could at least select the gamma and colorspace of the clip in the FileIn node (let alone choose ISO, OLPF, etc). Color.app can now do this, so it wouldn't be a stretch to think Shake could as well.

The Shake SDK is freely available, so it should technically be possible for such a feature to be implemented by a third party. I really hope someone pulls it off, because I've been moving back to Shake now that Apple fixed the 10-bit rendering issues. There's still some life in this beast!

I have a copy of Shake I have yet to use. I was thinking of installing it on my MBP. Anybody have any cautionary tales or reasons why I shouldn't? Should I stick with After Effects... maybe an Apple revolution this NAB?

As much as I like Shake, you'll be better off with AE when their RED plug is eventually showing up. You'll never get full quality with the proxies, and who else needs it if not us VFX folks? If you like to stick to Shake, do a first light in RA and convert to DPXs.

DPX is definitely the way to go with Shake. Just curious as to how the old girl is limping along.

I can't wait for the travesty they may or may not put out to replace it...

If somebody uses the Red and Shake SDKs to write a floating point capable R3D FileIn node for Shake, that is certainly something I'd pay good money for.
