  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sgt. Pixelchef's Lonely Utah Red Users Club

All of Salt Lake is the same. Built my own home in Richfield 4 years ago 2500 Sq. ft closed on it for 97,000.00 lived in it for 3 years sold it for 180,000.00
In SLC the same house would cost me 260,000.00. It is just nuts. We are doing the apt. thing until I can find a lot. (a lot of money)

I take my kid over to Foxboro (or there-abouts) every morning for daycare. I'm actually on Orchard and Eaglewood (38th South). I built my last house in Layton 7 years ago, for 120k, sold it in September for 250k-- took the equity and eliminated I-15 from my commute to SLC. One of the smartest things I've ever done...

I've talked to Redman a lot, and TVSpec. I got the impression from Philip, Geoff, and Ted at TV Spec, that they weren't terribly interested because they couldn't resell or service the Red (not that they weren't interested in the camera, it just didn't fit their business model)... But I haven't talked to them recently. Maybe that's changed.

It's true the house market has been INSANE. It has been cooling a bit, but it will never get cheaper than it is now. I must confess that a house flip paid for my Red...so i can't complain too much.

amen on the commute what a nightmare. although I'm sure some of our So. Cali. friends would disagree. Where do you work in SLC?
Yeah, TV Spec. is a little wait and see right now on the red. But I hope all of the Camera dealers know what this is going to do to their business.

Yeah, Redman and, to a lesser extent TV Spec, are interested from a 3rd-party rental perspective right now, waiting to take the plunge after the cam is a proven demand (and after workflow is established).

I slave in Centerville, live in Riverton. How's that for I-15 hell? :D

Ouch! Well, I guess, at least your moving against traffic.. I'm a "glass if half full" guy (today, at least).

Yeah, Bryan at Redman and I have been talking about the workflow and demand, and I suspect there will be some convincing with (especially) producers. No production is going to switch to Red right away unless there is a production pipeline in place that they can trust. Even if the DPs they hire are Red friendly, unless they can feel confident that their footage won't get hung-up in post- hell, my camera is going to sit idle (except for Group 801 projects!).

I'm still working out my business model, but I'm working toward providing video-tech/assist/playback/village service supporting the Red camera. Let the TC's, Williams, Smoots, Lonsdales and Johnsons worry about actually handling the camera on the dolly-- they already got those mad skills... But supporting the camera and its digital content while on set is something that will be new to everyone.

I'm just hoping that my camera will ship, and all the support gear ready and available before the MPIF is depleated again. The last two years, its been sucked dry in a matter of months.

So, who from the Utah RED's will be going to NAB?

I will be at NAB for prob three days this year...

There is allot of intrest in the Salt Lake area for a couple of ad angencys. Also one of the bigger film house that we have been working with allot. They make thoes one moves that do very good in Utah. Sorry don't want to say to much until things are on papper. But yes there is allot of good opertunityes here. And in Vegas. I have had allot of people that are worried about the tapeless aspect. But there is an easy soultion. We are going to provide service along with our stright rental. One of the service (and I garenntee we will be very low priced. indie in mind) is your footage to anything. We will do all the processing. So for most of our clients now they are very HD CAM and DVCPRO HD based. So most of the time that is what they will get. With the 4K files saved as DPX so they can be used for online or for a latter date. Long term arcive has always been an issue. But I think we have a soild pipe line and soultion. We will also offer arcive of your footage at a secure data center for a time length determend by the client. Also very resonable priced.

And for all you utah guys. Feel free to look at us first for support and rental needs beacuse I garentee that we will take good care of you. The website will be www.4Kcamrentals.com We will have an office in STG. and SLC STG will handel vegas. And one day an office in LA. The web page and everything is still being built and we will be puttting on some very interesting coming out party for RED to the UT film comunity coming up some time after NAB. I want all you guys to share in this. We don't want to go it alone. I want to share and help other RED one users along. I belive that there will be more then enough interest for anyone.

As for the slots. Any time you guys want to go. My uncle owns a rock climbing and canyonerring shop in zion that dose quided trips. http://www.zionrockguides.com/ Lets just say you all will get the friends and family rate.

There is some really good stuff on the east side. Pine Creek is the most popular beacuse it is easy and takes about a half an hour to do. Then you get into some of the bigger ones and my god.. Emily and Mystery are my two favs. But they kick your ass. I'm a bigger boy and it wopps my ass. I really need to get in shape this summer.

Sorry for all the miss spelled stuff. A couple beers down early weekend. and I just don't care tonight.

NAB - We'll be there for 3 days, it'd be cool to hook up with you guys.

IMG, I very much appreciate your inclusive character. Boy, I'd choose to live in StG if I could, I love the country down there. I get down to Zion a couple times a year, I may take you up on your generosity! :)

Go for it. I'm sure I can get you taken care of.

Yeah it will be good to see you all at NAB this year.

I'll be in NAB all week long (Mon - Thu). I guess we'll all be meeting up at the Red Booth if nothing else. ;-) I'll have my wife, my brother and his wife with me, so I probably won't get out to do to much geeking... but I'll try!

Ha, I know what you mean. We're a family-owned shop, so they'll be 8 of us down there, all up and down the family tree.
