Hey:

I bought a bunch of empty sandbags from Matthews, fiiled them with sand and temporarily taped off the portion that was not already sewn shut. I brought it to a shoe repair shop thinking that they had strong enough needles and thread to sew the sandbag shut. Didn't work!

Has anybody else gone through this? Can you give me advice on sewing the bag shut? Any specific company or a type of company that can handle this? Anybody do it themselves? If so, what machine, needle, thread did you use? Thanks

I buy the sandbags with the double zippers... Not that it helps you out now. You might try calling Matthews and see what they recommend. Otherwise, a nice large needle and heavy duty nylon thread should do it. several stitching courses across the bag are probably necessary. Might check with a shop that makes heavier-duty items such as boat covers and tarps, maybe they can help.

fishing line dude. Fishing line. works like magic.

I sewed one home-made sandbag with just a standard needle on a standard machine but it was very slow, and in my opinion was not really worth the time it took.
