  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sevens Sins: A Dragon Test Shoot.

Finally a Dragon test I can appreciate for more than just technical reasons (but also communicates many technical things).

It's also a delight to see a Red test that is coming from a refined, sophisticated perception of feminine beauty and charm.

Kudos!

Thanks for your comments Peter.
I didn't use a matte box for any shot in that clip.
For the upcoming jobs I mentioned, I need to shoot quick and efficient, almost in a guerrilla style, so I don't have time to swap ND filters and I use a Vari-ND.
I've tried a lot of them and here I picked the Schneider True Match 77mm which is my favorite.
When it comes to use a matte box, I mount the Red Pro Mattebox on my lenses, it's really light and really easy to work with the clip-on system.
Thanks a lot for the disclosure -> that's precious info to me ;)

I don't know how far the OLPF has advanced with Dragon (I come from the original M Sensor on R1 and the M-X Sensor on EPIC experience-wise) but with the old sensors there were times and places where we had -without filtration, just to state the obvious- pretty bad IR-Pollution especially when it came to direct sunlight environments or environments where snow and direct sunlight were mixed - that's why I asked for IR/ND-filtration and stuff... How much did you stop down the lenses with the outdoor/sunlight-scenes for this shoot? Any Color Correction involved here afterwards - or just contrast leveling with RC-X?

Thanks!

Great video, love your compositions, Vincent. Do you run into any IR problems when using the Schneider True Cut and no IR filtration?

Thanks Jordan.
No issue at all with IR filtration on this shoot but as I shot everything high speed outside, I didn't cut more than 4 stops.

Did you mean to write 17:1, 11:1, or 7:1? I'm quite sure 17:11 is not an option. Thanks!

17:1, well spotted, that's a typo in first post, I'll correct it asap.

You're welcome Peter.
I shot everything high speed outside between 80fps to the max you can shoot in 6K WS so the most I cut was 4 stops.
I didn't notice any issue with IR filtration but I need to push that point more.
There's definitely a difference with the new OLPF and the fact the camera "flares" less than my Epic MX when pointed to direct light is an example.
After a first color correction in RCX, my partner applied a final grade in Da Vinci Resolve. She kept it easy as we wanted to keep the footage close to what we shot.
We'll probably post another edit with a more evolved and pushed grade in the next ten days.

Here's another portrait processed with ADD.

Great video Vincent, loved the subtle camera moves, and the colors.
