I just rented a Red One to shoot some special scenes i need 120fps for.. but my question is, how do i set it up to 120fps in varispeed? i can only overcrank to 60fps.

Quick responses needed.

Best regards, Niklas Sundin

i'm using a 8gb extreme memory at the moment, with the settings of 2k 2:1 and redcode 28, i only get 60fps anyhow, not 100fps as you said.. I really need to fix a 16gb card..

Sounds like you're using unapproved media, in which case the camera will impose limits. The only non-Red CF cards that work like the Red 8gb CF cards is Lexar 300x UDMA Professional 8gb (I don't think the 16gb Lexar cards work for some reason). Call the person you rented from...they really ought to have some Red-approved media!

Where are you shooting? You may be able to find someone on Reduser that can help you out of this pinch...

Yea i probably should do that.. but just of curiosity, i googled the lexar memorycard and it says the better version of it ( the 400x = 60mb/s card ) has the same speed as my sandisk extreme III at 60mb/s.. i dont really see the problem there.

It's a matter of what's been approved in the camera's firmware, which has come after extensive testing by Red. There have been many "faster" cards to come after the Lexar, but the issue is ultimately sustained write speed, a test which most cards have not successfully passed.

They lie... They all lie... The cards still can not sustain the necessary write speeds consistently. If getting the shot is worth it, just buy the RED 16GB CF card; its only 2x as much as the Lexar cards, and they are guaranteed to work.

As Anthony has essentially said, it's really best if you stick with Red media. It's all a part of an integrated system.

The bigger issue from where I stand is why did someone rent you a camera without media? Even if you thought you wouldn't need it (under the belief that you could use your own), this is a topic that should have come up before you were ready to roll the camera. Hope you can get everything straightened out before too much time gets away...
